A quick little tf story based on Pokemon Go. No, I don't have the game (my devices are old dinosaurs, and not in the cool triassic kind mind you) but you'd have to be an amish person living in 1939 to not have at least heard of this game!
Plus, I love Pokemon, so I thought Pokemon Go would make for an interesting trigger!
A player gets a very interesting offer when replacing his phone, and just can't refuse it!
If I got any minor details wrong about Pokemon Go, blame my friends and social media.
Bleh, anyways, hope you like it! And critiques are always more than welcome!
Shifting Allegiances
Pokemon Go had sucked up most of Eric’s free time for the past couple weeks. Pokemon had always been his favorite video game franchise, and the idea of catching Pokemon in the real world was just too fun to pass up on. He anxiously waited while the somewhat large app downloaded on his phone, bouncing his knee up and down in excitement. Soon, the game was finally ready to play, and he quickly started his Pokemon journey.
Going around town looking for Pokemon was even more fun that he thought it would be. Not only was he finally getting some exercise and some sunlight, he wasn’t the only person doing it. Time and again he’d run into another player, and start up a nice little chat while they hunted. It was a nice way of networking and getting tips, especially since he was such a low level. By the time he was level 5 and able to choose his team, he had no clue who to join. Eric had met nice players on Instinct, Valor, and Mystic, and none of his close friends really played Pokemon Go. In the end, he simply went with Valor, Moltres was his favorite of the legendary birds.
Eric went on playing the game, getting better and better and leveling up faster and faster. His party was filling up with of some of his favorite first generation pokemon, and he’d even taken a few gyms himself. All in all, it was the time of his life, playing this game and meeting people was just a lot of fun. He and a group of players even took a short road trip out to the capital because of rumors of rare pokemon being over there.
After months of playing, Eric had heard of the “dark side” of Pokemon Go. People using it to rob people, players not paying attention to their surroundings, and a bunch of other bad news. However, he had always been rather safe, watching the streets and going with fellow players whenever possible. Yet one day while searching for a dratini, Eric made his first real slip up. He was so enthralled in the chase, he didn’t notice the uneven curb on the older sidewalk. His foot slammed into the higher portion hard, sending ripples of pain all through his leg. Eric fell forward, landing face first on the worn cement His knees and face felt like they had been hit by a bus, but that wasn’t the worst of it. Looking up, he noticed his phone a few feet ahead of him, shattered on the ground.
It was beyond repair, the screen wasn’t just cracked or anything, the entirety of the phone had been smashed. No repair shop was going to be able to piece this poor wretch back together, and his phone’s warranty had already expired. It seemed as if his Pokemon Go days were over, for the time being at least.
Eric still hung out with the other Pokemon Go players he had met while playing, all the while saving up for a new phone to replace his old one. It took weeks upon weeks, but finally he was soon in possession of a new phone. Before anything else, he went to installing the game, stuff like transferring contacts could wait a few minutes. Everything seemed fine, the game installed without a problem, and his account was intact. However, a popup appeared on his game, something he hadn’t known was possible
It was a “special offer” for a returning player. He could change his team and be rewarded with something special. Intrigued, he looked at what the possible rewards could be. Stuff like candies, ultra balls, a 24 hour lure, stuff that all was rather appealing, but was nothing compared to the last offer. If he changed teams in the next 5 minutes, he’d have a guaranteed legendary bird encounter. The legendaries so far had not been released, yet here he was, guaranteed an encounter. It was simply too good to refuse! Shrugging, he accepted the offer. It wasn’t too hard to choose what team to join. The more he played, the more Mystic players he came across. Besides, Articuno had grown on him. A small grin on his face, he confirmed his team change, Eric was now on Team Mystic.
He sat there for a while, waiting for his encounter. It seemed like nothing was going to happen, maybe the game was bugged? He frowned a little, wondering if this was really worth it. But, much to his glee, his phone soon alerted him. “Articuno, approaching in 7 minutes” Eric grinned wider than ever before, not only was he going to get his shot, it was coming straight to him! All he’d have to do was sit and wait, then he’d have a legendary bird.
Caught up in his excitement, Eric did not notice the prickling sensation on his body. Of course, if he did notice it, he’d probably write it off as nervous goosebumps. That assumption would have been proven false soon enough anyways, for small blue feathers were slowly but surely sprouting across their body. At first, they stood out, looking gaudy and unnatural on his pale skin, but as time progressed, more feathers were lumped together, and slowly took a majority of his body. But, despite things suddenly feeling a little more toasty in his house, Eric was not alarmed, he only had 6 minutes left!
All this waiting was killing him, and his feet were starting to feel sore. Realizing he wouldn’t have to leave the house for this encounter, he simply kicked off the shoes. His gaze never leaving his phone, he is blind to the fact that his slightly small feet are spreading, growing out into big talons. The dug into his carpet, feeling all too natural to raise suspicion. As his rapidly growing plumage began to compliment his shifting body, he anxiously looked as his phone again. 4 minutes!
His arms were definitely not normal human arms anymore. Long feathers flowed down the sides of them, making lovely icy blue wings. He somewhat saw them out of the corners of his eyes, but was more focused on that slowly ticking down countdown. He’s so close, he doesn’t have time to focus on his thick wings, or his long tail feathers that had started to poke out from under his shirt. They started off short, but soon billowed out, tickling the ground. 3 more minutes was all it took, he was so close he could taste it.
Eric’s shirt was just a little bit awkward on his body. Not only were the thick feathers rubbing against the cheap cotton t shirt, but the chest area was feeling awfully tight. Sure enough, a small yet firm pair of breasts was filling in, the tight t shirt feeling even more form fitting. They shuffled around in their seat a little, wondering if they need to change. But there’s no time for that! Only two minutes were left until he got to try and catch his bird.
There was a strange sensation in his pants. His manhood felt like it was receding, pulling inside of him shyly. They clasped their legs together, sincerely hoping they don’t need to go pee, not right now. Eric did not need to pee, instead, their manhood was now a distinct sign of their newfound womanhood. Eric took a long, deep breath, lucky that her unforeseen potty break was not necessary. It was time, only one minute left!
Their face tingled a lot, more so than any other body part thus far. It was too much to ignore, and they itched themselves with their big, winged hand. They finally noticed how large their arm was, nearly dropping their phone in shock. A sharp cough forced its way out of her mouth. The coughing fit continued, as their face pushed awkwardly outward. Her lips hardened, forming a small blue beak. She had no clue what was going on, it was kind of scary. They checked their phone, their wing shaking slightly as they looked at the countdown. “Articuno is now in your area!”
It took her an hour to calm down. She simply stared in the mirror for several minutes, still not entirely convinced the anthropomorphic Articuno was real, let alone her After a long mental debate, she concluded she was in fact the strange and somewhat pretty creature in the mirror. She was still shaking, but it was some progress at the very least.
Next came testing out their body. Walking around on their talons was easy, though she couldn’t help but dig them into the ground whenever she stopped walking. Talking still worked just the same, though her voice was far higher and more sing-songy. Eric also admittedly tried to see if she could fly, which left the poor bird rubbing her head after face planting on her coffee table.
It hadn’t even occurred to her to check her phone, yet the moment she did she practically lunged at it. The arrival message was still on her screen, waiting for some sort of confirmation. Not sure what else to do, she pressed it. After that, came a somewhat stylized pop up, the logo for Team Mystic embossed at the top. “Congratulations! You have been chosen to represent Team Mystic in your country! You’re new to the team, but as you’ve quickly found out, it comes naturally to you now! Remember, be safe, and have fun!”
Erica (the name Eric didn’t really fit well anymore) adjusted somewhat well to her new role. It didn’t really mean much, mostly publicity things. People would come up and take a selfie with her, stuff like that. Being a legendary bird was definitely different, but not too bad. Besides, she was basically getting paid to go play Pokemon Go now, which was fine in her book. Usually, when something this big happens, there’s some big ripple effect in your life. But for Erica, nothing really changed. She was still going around, hanging out with friends and filling her stable. She just happened to be a living mascot for Pokemon Go now, no big deal. Well maybe kind of a big deal, she was the first legendary bird encounter in the entire game after all!
Plus, I love Pokemon, so I thought Pokemon Go would make for an interesting trigger!
