Man, I'm sooo proud of that one *-* It took me a couple hours to make, but when I finally found the perfect shape, it all came out super nice. Thanks for giving me the chance to make something like this, really.
Also, I'm in love with him hahah!

The solid line between the neck fluff and the front part of the neck makes it look like they got a really really tiny neck. there's also a lot of noise going on with the fur texture on that fluff, instead of thinking of it as "puffs" of fur, try thinking of it as clumps of shadowed fur, give it kind of a sily appearance then feather it a little bit to be a bit wilder at points.
Lastly, the lack on texturing between the neck and outer fluff makes it look like a thick sheet of fiberglass insulation wrapped around them, gives it a squared appearance. Not sure if that's intentional or not though.

I feel you, the fluff was a pain to make and making overall fur is really hard. Sometimes I try to use shadow, as you said, but as I don't know how to use it properly, It was showing a rather terrible outcome.
After several attempts, I decided to stick with what you see in there as it was the least ugly result heh
Thanks for pointing those out tho, will definitely keep that in mind on the next works :)

Here, I went out and dug up a few good refs for you to study.

The big thing is to try and work out where the roots are and work from there. Fur, unless it's EXCESSIVELY fluffy, tends to like to clump like this. And if it IS fluffy enough to matter, try for something like this bouncy lil' guy's afro texture:

(it's simpler than it looks! It's just three tones really, high mid and shadow, mottled to have a rounder texture!)

Dear god, those are awesome references! O_O
Man... Thank you, really really thank you XD
I know the seeing someone making it and actually making it are very different experiences, but still!
I feel like this is a lot of work and I'll have to practice a lot, but seems totally worth it.
