A small, secluded airfield located on the bank of calmly moving river, where any unsecured aircraft can easily roll backwards and into the water. Remember those chocks, lads and lasses! ;-p

Even further up the Danube, this time in Vilshofen, Bavaria. Vilshofen is the default destination for the flying school's international cross-country flights, and having been here, I can vividly see why. The town is small and friendly, the surrounding area stunningly beautiful, and the airfield sleepy yet well-equipped. What's more, unlike Austria or Poland, German airspace doesn't require you to file a flight plan if you want to fly into it, so it means less paperwork for me! On the other hand, it does mean having to cross a mountain range extending 4000ft above sea level, which although means using more fuel to get over them, makes for some absolutely breathtaking views. However, the airfield is only available to be used at certain times of the year, since the Danube regularly floods, meaning that the runway becomes submerged beneath about 4ft of water, and no doubt makes for some very interesting insurance claims from anyone who parks their plane there.
