One of these was my very first tablet, artpad II I think (curse my memory, I'm getting old...). Quite nice, especially for someone who can't draw at all but just digs this kind of input. The real problem was the extreme low resolution of that thing, go anything higher than 1024x768 and the cursor jumped around the pixels quite erratic. But at least you could carry it around in your baggage.
Uh haa...! My friend Bernard brought is 9X12" tablet during one of his US visits, and he let me play around with it. It was such a rush to feel that new Artistic freedom.
My first tablet was a Wacom too. I also had the same timing and resolution problems, but it was GREAT for dropping and dragging multiples and text into place in Photoshop.
Now I miss that gadget, but it's a good excuse to check out investing in a larger tablet. Do they still make "Bamboo?"

The old bamboo tablets, maybe somewhere second-hand, but I don't think wacom sells them anymore. They've got a new product named "bamboo" which has not much in common with a tablet anymore. Funny, they've named their low-cost tablets "intuos" now, and the bigger tablets "intuos pro". The only product without a "name downgrade" seem to be the cintiq displays.
They have their intuos tablets available in two sizes, 6x4 and 9x6 and with different names (as far as I can see they only differ in the software they give away with it), you can get the small size with or without touch sensitive, but the bigger one has touch (it behaves just like a tablet display without the display underneath, but the stylus also works and is much more precise imo). But the biggest downside seems to be, the stylus don't seem to have the eraser function anymore, means no turn around of the stylus to quick access the eraser (or whatever function you assign to it...). I bet they're selling a stylus with eraser as an extra item
I managed to get an old CTH-680, still with an erase stylus, but the newer CTH-690 they're selling now is higher priced, and without eraser this feels like a rip-off to me

I still have one Intuos (one, the original, without any keys) 6x8, but I don't use it anymore, the usb to serial converter is a bit cumbersome and the resolution is still a bit low for HD displays. But it still works. No wonder, beside the pen tips and maybe cable breaks there are practically no wear-off-parts involved
wasn't that the default for any 'better' tablet until wacom came with its inductive stylus? I remember seeing one in the 80s, a huge thing compared to todays desktop sizes, it had both a stylus and a puck, both got their power via cable. Although I wasn't allowed to try it, this was too expensive equipment for an internship...
My boss is all honked off because instead of giving me a new laptop, Systems gave me somebody's cast-off with. The. World's. Slowest. Stevie. SSD. A coal-fired abacus would boot faster.
