The manticore images require a lot of sustained focus, which can be
draining. This is much more looser for me, and was a welcome break.
H.G.Wells's story is one of the few "legit" examples of bona fide "Furry"
works in the western canon. Despite that, it's really not that strong a
narrative to hang any production upon, in my opinion.

Gotta disagree, the narrative might not be very strong but it's full of interesting ideas that could be very powerful if structured correctly. Unfortunately most of the movie adaptations have come up a little short, the most recent being the worst by far.
The picture is quite good, it almost looks like Moreau done in the style of the Lion King play.

Hotdamn! That sneer, that scar, those colours!
Yeah, nothing productive to say I must admit, 'cept it's a great piece.
For a roughly contemporaneous "furry" piece of writing, there's always Oscar Wilde's "The Sphinx" poem, which I mention as I recently re-read it and it's pleasingly bizarre.

That's pretty cool. I remember there was this game company who was making an FPS comp game based on The Island of Dr. Moreau. They called it Vivisector. Too bad it was never finished. I believe the company either went out of business, or they got rid of the site based on the game, because you can click the link and doesn't work.
