Treading deeper and deeper under the faint light of bright growths of moss, the ordinary cave expands - and expands yet more, unfolding into a massive dome, with enough warm light to trick you into believing yourself to be outside - but the air, carrying the scent of reptilian creatures breaks that illusion.
You don't get nearly enough time to admire the crystalline roof, the way it spreads warm, comforting light through the cave - or the way trickling water fed the glowing plantlife - all of it fades from your thought when your eyes meet the bright, glowing eyes of the cave's ruler, the beast of pearl and gold perched on a ledge that offers perfect view of his home, the center of his kingdom. It makes for a powerful view, one that makes it easy to understand how the dragon commands the obedience of an entire kingdom.
The movement of a queer mix of species - perhaps servants? - makes it easy to get distracted. They all work with a clear eagerness, the naga and dog at his two sides making you look away, catching the dark red glare of another dragon above you, far away. It almost startles you when the dragon before you offers a welcome, and with a wide smirk asks you why you've come here, drawing your attention - deserving it.
