A tremendous scandal erupted when Clint not only broke his engagement to Cheryl Murodia, but also became involved with Vivian Burneez, a rat-girl still very much in her teens yet already came with the label "notorious."
What was so notorious about her? For starters, she had an affair with the Crown Prince of Moneraic, who himself had also been engaged. The prince went through with his marriage, however, though Vivian was expelled from her boarding school and disappeared from sight. That only sparked rumors that she was pregnant, though no baby ever came about.
But soon everybody forgot about any potential royal offspring once Vivian took up with Clint. This time the rumor was that Clint was "obligated" to marry Vivian, but that proved not to be the case, for Vivian did not give birth until ten months after the wedding. Unfortunately, the first baby was a miscarriage, a sore point for the newlyweds.
Surprisingly soon after, Vivian became pregnant again, and ended up having a premature birth that brought Ferin into the world. Clint loved his daughter on sight, but Vivian thought she deserved a prettier child. She was later satisfied the following year by the better-looking Robert, though.
For the next few years, Clint rose higher and higher among the ranks of powerful rodents, earning both respect and jealousy on all sides: he was rich and getting richer, handsome and getting handsomer, had a beautiful wife who got even more beautiful, and two adorable children. Clint gained an even greater social standing with Vivian than he ever could have with Cheryl: Vivian's exotic and dangerous reputation made the DeRatrys seem all the more exciting to the point where nearly everybody in Ratropolis wanted them at their parties, gatherings or events. They became one of the most talked about couples the city ever had.
But then things took a turn for the worse: Vivian mysteriously disappeared, and rumors spread like wildfire. Did she run away? Was she really dead? Did she fake her own death? Had she been kidnapped? Did she commit suicide?
Did Clint kill her?
Nobody knew, and nothing could be proven.
