A lineart sketch bought from Jelliroll when they were forced to have a firesale to raise money for some vet bills or something. Anyway, went through my list of characters and decided to have them give Security Officer Suker a try. Definitely going to have to keep an eye out for when they do something like this again.
Species Overview: The Vul are a vulpine-like race of lifeforms in the Hearth Star universe known for being gifted in the sciences as well as for certain enhanced physical characteristics and... non-food appetites. Awash with the advanced agricultural and food processing technologies of the Galactic Republic (and directly responsible for a few of them), the Vul have grown to be as wonderfully plump as the rest of the Republic.
Normally the Vul disdain martial pursuits, preferring to focus on science and love-making instead. However the increasing rise in the number of Vul taken as slaves by roving bands of space pirates and the horror stories told by those that manage to come back has caused a shift in Vul society with a number choosing to contribute more militantly to the GalRep cause....
Like Corporal Donka in the Star Corps, Petty Officer Suker (pronounced Sucker) is a Vul that has chosen to leave his design laboratory to take a more direct role in defending the Galactic Republic. Though unlike Donka who was an appliance engineer before joining the Star Corps, Suker was a weaponsmith specialized in personal firearms before he enlisted with Space Fleet. Earning the red collar of security was a surprisingly natural fit for him as his skill at weapon construction and testing them on the firing range helped him excel at maintenance and marksmanship. His prior career also meant he was prone to making nonstandard modifications to his service weapons and designing entirely new ones. In short, he's a mad scientist in a military uniform. =P
Originally assigned to Commander Longfoot's rival Captain Bargebottom, he was since transferred to Longfoot's command along with Ensign Cheddah of Galley Services. So far he has tried to show some restraint but in general is overjoyed by his change in fortunes. Even his encounters with the human refugees haven't been enough to get him completely down. After all, it's long been a joke in the Galactic Republic that there isn't a problem big enough that a Vul can't solve in a single evening...
