Coincidence. Gareth's clothing design originally incorporated a haramaki, and when color came into play, green was chosen to compliment his eyes and contrast his hair. The look was actually inspired by Cid's design in Kingdom Hearts, cuz Cid and Zoro's clothing pull from a very basic template of clothing worn with a haramaki.
