Yeah, they screwed up the Caitians in "Into Darkness", just like they screwed up EVERYTHING with that film. That's why the new one doesn't acknowledge any of its events, thus striking it from the record.

They changed the timeline once, they will do it again. The perfect way to reboot the movies or even the TV series whenever they want, which is exactly the reason I did not like the idea from the first time I heard about it. I you do a reboot, do a reboot and do it right.

And no, I don't like the new movies. Mostly because Star Trek was never an action space adventure for me. A space adventure, yes. For an action space adventure I have Star Wars. Or Guardians of the Galaxy.

I'd put Insurrection below ST V.

Maybe Insurrection is worst, but ST V just drives me crazy. Also, Yosemite God.

Okay, those assholes did deserve what happened to them. I still hate that Bill almost singlehandedly took Star Trek to the brink of destruction, and they managed to save it with ST VI. But yeah, both movies were terrible.

Bill actually caused only 60% of STV's failings. The other 40% were factors beyond his control (i.e. a Writer's Strike, ILM being too busy working on 5 other films at the time (all of which were hits), and Paramount's top execs wanting humor in a movie that couldn't fit the humor in neatly).

According to the late Gene Roddenberry nothing that happened in the animated series is cannon, including extra characters. I heard this at a Star Trek Convention back in the 80's. of course things can change now but that could mean a LOT of CGI sequences.

I've heard the Spock story was canon, and that the rest was questionable.

At least Into Darkness started with Kirk in bed with Caitian twins so...
