Here is another of my pieces that is just for fun (making noise and punching holes in paper). No real use for it, other than that.
It started life as a German Maschinengwer 13 (MG13). These went into service in 1932 but were relegated to second line use by the cheaper and more reliable MG34 and later the MG42 after a few years. Originally feeding from 25 a round box magazines it was later fitted with a 75 round double drum magazine. (never seen one of those)
This piece was rebuilt by a local gunsmith to BATF specifications as a semi automatic rifle. Not too hard a job, as the original fired from a closed bolt with a separate hammer. Parts were removed and guide channels welded flat and remachining the trigger group and receiver met the BATF requirements.
Chambered for the 8mm Mauser cartridge, Pictured with the piece is a box of 8 magazines and a toolbox containing a magazine loader, a flash hider, a blank firing device and some disassembly tools.
Not as elegant as the later MG34 or MG42, it still gets attention at the range.
