Some emeralds I ordered from India. 105 carats for less than $10. They're a bit included and the color is inconsistent, but still very pretty considering the price.
Since there seems to be some question as to their authenticity (not surprising given the price) I'll go over how I verified them.
First, emerald is a species of beryl, which has a Moh's hardness rating of 7.5-8.0. Quartz, on the other hand, has a Moh's hardness of 7.0. That means that real emerald should scratch quartz, but quartz should not scratch emerald. I have several large quartz crystals, so I used one of the emeralds to scratch it. It left a deep gouge in the quartz. When I tried to scratch the emerald with the quartz, there was no discernible mark left on the emerald.
Second, natural emerald forms in very distinctive hexagonal shapes, while quartz tends to form in tetrahedral shapes. Most of the emeralds I got are broken crystals, but 3 of them are very clear hexagons, though that's hard to see in the picture.
Just wanted people to know that I did verify the authenticity of my stones before posting them

I got them on ebay.

That's from the same seller I believe. Since it ships from India, it takes about a month, but the shipping is free.

going to have to agree based on the structure.

None of them have natural "points" on them. The ones that look like they do are broken off at an angle. I imagine that the crystal formation these came from was damaged. That in addition to the inconsistent color and the deep flaws and inclusions is probably why they were so cheap. If they were any more damaged, I imagine they'd have been ground into powder and used to polish corundum. As it is, I didn't purchase them with the intent to turn them into beautiful cut gems. I got them because they were pretty and quite inexpensive, so I figured I'd grab them and see if I could possibly do something with them at a later time.
No, they're emeralds. I tested them myself, they scratched quartz, but weren't scratched themselves. Since emerald is beryl with a Moh's hardness scale of 7.5-8 and quartz has a hardness of 7, that's the result you should expect from emerald. As I said in the description, it's included, has some pretty deep impurities, and the color is streaky and inconsistent. Its certainly not facet-grade, but it's still pretty and could possibly be used in some cabochons or rough wire-wrapped pendants.
You didn't. It was a perfectly legitimate question. People should verify what they purchase to ensure it's genuine. Even if it was green quartz, I still would have been pleased though. It's not particularly common, so $10 is still a pretty good price for over 100 carats of it.
