[I also realize in the next six days, it will have been ten years since I joined FA o: ]
I wanted to wait until tomorrow for this, but I decided to go on ahead and post this anyway. On the left is one of the first digital furry works I've ever done, and I've somehow managed to hold onto it all these years. Needless to say, Kate has undergone a number of changes since I had devised her. If I remember correctly, being the Yugioh fag I was at the time, she was essentially supposed to be an anthro Blue Eyes White Dragon. Since then, I've made some changes (with the help of
chronoreaper ) to make her more original.
If I recall, for that method, I basically used the selection tool in photoshop to create a general shape, and use the same tool to 'cut' outlines out before filling them with color. I have other older works like this, some of which I have in the process of being remade, but I decided to start with this one, since Kate is one of the first anthro OCs I've ever made. I'll have to find ancient sketches of her from 2004 to redo one day.
I never went to art school or had any official lessons. Almost 90% of everything I know has been self-taught since kindergarten. Every single time I draw, I try to see if there's even a little something I can do different from the last. A lot of my style is inspired by the styles of many artists I admire,

wsache2020 , just to name a few. I've tried to emulate them, but if there's one thing I learned, it's; never work for a style, make one work for you. I've come a long way in ten years, and the support from all of my friends and viewers are infinitely appreciated.
People, don't stop drawing, doodling or arting in general. Any chance you get, keep working at it, every little thing you try differently over time, will snowball into something massive one day. Everything has to begin somewhere. Don't throw away your old works either, hold onto them, so you can reflect every now and then and see how far you've come.
Now, I'm going to bed. I will upload a standalone version of the updated image soon.

Hey, ten years ago, I felt no different when I started posting online. Just keep at it. It'll be a long road, you'll run into snags, criticism of the good and heartlessly bad variety, bumps in the road, as is any path to success.
Studying the art style of others helps too, see what influences you and how you draw and you're certain to find your niche sometime.

I wish I followed that mindset when I was 16. Except, everyone I knew at the time was enjoying themselves and I got in my stupid head that if I got better by the age of 18, I would be a pro and feel noticed. however, I broke one of the biggest sins of being an artist; NEVER draw art for fame or profit. Because of that, my confidence dropped throughout the years and I ended up feeling worse about myself that I ended up slowing doing from one drawing a week to a month or more. I would even become more afraid of a slight error in a drawing and end up considering it a failure. Even no comments made me question if anyone even liked it either here or DA.
Not to mention my current job lately has been getting in the way of wanting me to draw more and every time I get home, the forced mental thoughts of future responsibilities made me think that one day I would end up losing this hobby because I have to focus on multiple jobs and have no moment of rest...
Sorry about this sudden venting. I just needed to vent it out...When you spend five years after high school questioning your mistakes, you end up feeling like you could have done something better in your life in the past and not sulk about it...

Gotta follow Ren’s advice, i still have a long road ahead of my art skill too, even goes to my skill in 3D work within the posing department in Garry’s Mod. (And possibly SFM too). I don’t wanna do art for fame or money (well, maybe getting a few dollars for my work would be fine and dandy but i don’t wanna be a burden to anyone’s pockets.) I just wanna draw because im creative, dammit. i got lots of ideas that’ll be great into turning into IP’s, and something else here. Tbh, Porn fueled my art-making, because i got such a great study-up on the human body (proportions are a thing, but it’s all twisted up due to that reason).
All that 2D and 3D art skill will also collide into the fact that i’d be making animations sometime soon. Seeing this image here gives me that courage to keep going and keep refinin’ and drawin’ and refinin’ and other things. Gives umph to my will to draw and create content.
Sorry for the mini rant as well, but, seeing this image really gives me great confidence in my ability to make art. Be it on any character subject. Your work is truly an inspiration to me.

I know this is an old post but, I just wanted to say. I needed this. I'm very self conscious about my art and I feel like I am not getting better. I feel guilty every time I post my works, I haven't been to art school, I use a combination of other artist and youtube to get better.
Seeing you improve as a self taught artist fills me if the confidence that I can get there some day. Thank you so much.
