Lives in a condominium by the coast-side part of town. Occasionally visits Rory, usually intoxicated after visiting a bar near Rory's on-campus apartment.
Rory and Linkon were never really close as kids. Them being 9 years apart in age delivered a lot of confusion for Rory under certain circumstances. They were very distant growing up, and Rory was always left in the dark about it. Once Rory was 10 he had to witness Linkon (now 19) and their father get into a violent argument which led into a fight. Linkon was left scarred from being pushed into a dresser. Soon after, Linkon moved out and cut off all communication between him and them.
When Rory was a junior in high school, he had his first gay relationship. Naturally, he kept it from his parent's attention for a while. Until one day he decided to come out about it. He still liked girls too, so he didn't think of it as a big deal. His parents completely dismissed and resented the idea. Mostly his father, who became very violent towards him. This reminded Rory of how his brother was treated, and this scared him. He didn't want to have move away at such a young age and become alienated by his family. So he broke the relationship off, and later forced himself into a straight relationship. He wanted to seem "normal" and happy to his parents. Emotionally, he was at his lowest point.
Rory (age 19) graduated high school and got accepted into a local University where he would be starting his fall semester studying Commercial Photography. He got a job on campus as a studio photographer/ assistant and made the deans list for his first year.
By the time his Sophomore second semester was beginning, he got a phone call from a number he didn't recognize. The caller placed a voicemail. It was Linkon (age 29). He wanted to meet and catch up and try to build the relationship they should have had from the beginning, as well as explain why he left. All without any mention of him to their parents.
They met at a local bar & grille that was right by Rory's apartment. Linkon bought dinner and a few drinks for himself, offering Rory a beer. Rory explained that he was underage, which Linkon shrugged off. Then started their conversation. They sat focused on how long it's been since they had last seen each other. Linkon was surprised at how well Rory had grown. He looked fit, clean and kept up, and well dressed. Rory was surprised by the massive size and bulk of Linkon. He grew immensely from when they were kids and reminded him a lot of their father.
The two brothers recalled the many years that had passed, detailing specific events of embarrassment, hilarity, and sadness. Then the question came up. Rory asked Linkon why he left. Why he fought with their father. Why he never answered phone calls. Why he vanished.
Linkon's answer both shocked and reconciled Rory. It was all because of the fact that Linkon was gay.
The big shark went on about how sorry he was for how he reacted, but he wanted Rory to understand how their parents didn't understand it and how they treated him directly after was enough to trigger such a reaction. He didn't want to hide who he really was, and he was happy. He explained to Rory that it was either him leaving or him giving up his true self, which he absolutely refused to do. Linkon had no idea that Rory had gone through a similar experience, and reacted exactly the way that Linkon decided not to.
After hearing this, Rory began to cry, and asked to leave the bar. Linkon payed the bill and they went to Rory's on-campus apartment.
The two sat down at the small dining room table in the kitchen area of the studio. Rory made himself a cup of coffee and Linkon had his beer from the bar. After jokingly commenting on how small the apartment was, he asked Rory what the crying was about. Rory was dismissive at first, but he knew he had to spill the beans.
Rory looked back on the day that he told their parents that he was dating another guy. He explained how pathetic and little his father made him feel. So degraded and less of a man. Rory began to cry again. Linkon went on to comfort his brother. He explained that it's nothing to be ashamed of and that he should be proud of who he is and live with it. Changing yourself to better what other people think of you is only going to make everything worse in the long-run. He told Rory how proud he was of him, and apologized that he had to go through the same thing. He jokingly pointed out that they might have more in common than they first thought.
Linkon expressed that he was impressed of Rory for riding the wave out as long as he did. He reminded his little brother of where he was. College is one of the best places to help find and accept yourself.
During this, Rory was fixated on the thought that he was finally seeing his brother for who he really was. He began to get a feeling he hadn't felt in a long time, which confused him. He started looking at Linkon's features. Starting at his eyes, to the scars on his left cheek, down to his thick arms. Rory snapped out of the trance-like state when Linkon snapped his fingers in his face.
He got up, expressing that Rory might need some time to think about all of this. After finishing his beer, he asked if he could use Rory's phone to call a cab. Rory suggested that he could just stay the night there. Linkon agreed to it as long as it wasn't an inconvenience. Rory insisted. He pulled out the living area's couch-bed, which was still a bit small for Linkon's height, and got into his own bed at the bedroom area of the studio. Before turning off the lights, he watched Linkon take off his shirt. He followed the lines and curves of his brothers chest and abdomen. Linkon started to remove his belt and pants, which made Rory panic and turn off the lights.
Linkon wished his little brother good night. Rory returned the gesture.
