Sushi Day
By Tyrex Kyuris
Sushi day is sacred. Of course you might not have heard of sushi day unless you were Lexal. But the day started with something incredibly specific; a thick and powerful shark tail beginning to wag before the alarm could even go off. The shark’s eyes darted open at 5:58 to the sound of his tail splashing water out of his tank bed. He jumped up, adding a great splash to the room around him which trickled along the floor into the drain.
Sushi day. Sushi day!!! He showered as fast as possible and brushed all his teeth before running into Tyrex’s room to wake him up. He pulled on his dark swimming trunks and pushed open the door to his roommate’s bedroom to see… nothing. The room was frigid thanks to the cooling crystal, and in a general sort of disarray, but the blue dragon wasn’t in. Oh well. He’ll look for friend later, it was Sushi day! No time to be worried for even a second!
Lexal bolted out the door and ran for the beach, almost bowling people over with his strong frame as he rushed past. Wow it felt like he was light as a feather without his armor on! He ran until his feet started hitting soft hay colored sand and the sounds of gulls and the beach began to take precedence over the early morning bustle of Larbordale. He skidded to a halt in front of a set of four small beach flags, all several yards apart, and stood there, giddy with anticipation. In a mere five hours, the Borking Shark would have set up their monthly luau out here with a beach cookout, a shaded games tournament, and of course the main feature: a sushi eating contest. Lexal was going to WIN this time. Only… four hours and fifty eight minutes left. Lexal’s tail was swinging around rampantly in excitement.
He was the only one on the beach; why wouldn’t he be, the sun was still peeking over the water’s edge and almost everyone was still in bed. But Lexal didn’t have time to appreciate gorgeous morning sunrises there was gonna be a sushi eating contest in this exact spot in… four hours and fifty seven minutes! Even if they were a fantastic display of a warm yellow light beginning to envelop the world and the waters looked particularly inviti-NO!
Lexal turned. The line was going to form behind him and he was gonna be the first one in and have the BEST day ever.
The sounds of someone approaching caused him to look up. Across the beach came stumbling a rather gut-heavy otter, staggering forward towards town, most likely.
“Are you here for the Borking Shark Luau? I know I am!!” Lexal chattered away excitedly while the Otter gurgled and clutched his well-rounded stomach.
“Ow… no…” He stopped to catch his breath. “I… I was out adventuring…”
“Well get back out here! They’re gonna have a luau and a sushi eating contest and videogames and…” Lexal paused. “Are you okay?”
“No they can’t…” The otter doubled over. “They’re headed this way, they need to cancel the Luau, it’s too dangerous…”
“Cancel the Luau?!” The rage of a thousand suns bubbled up behind the shark’s dark scleras and for a moment, he almost felt himself glow with the fury of a cancelled sushi eating contest. “No, I’ll deal with it. We don’t need to cancel the Luau why don’t you just go back to town and go to the guild to sell off that gut. Use the money and buy yourself a nice… uh, breakfast or something.” Lexal helped the otter up and sent him on his way with a pat on the back.
He turned in the direction the otter had come from and pounded one stout fist into his open palm. He didn’t need armor or weapons. He had motivation to deal with whatever this ‘threat’ was.
The threat… was unknown, unfortunately. Lexal scratched his scaly chin with a clawed finger as he looked back at the beach flags, where in four hours and forty minutes there would be a sushi eating contest. His anger was already turning into uncertainty. Had that otter been bloated from an encounter? His armor hadn’t looked like it was popping off, perhaps that belly was a normal feature and he had lost in combat? Or maybe Lexal was just imagining it and…
What was that smell? It smelled like one of those extremely fragrant fruits, fruity and pleasant. Like… strawberry banana smoothie.
From the beachgrass in the sand floated a bubble with a pale pink sheen. It was the source of the smell, alright. The bubble was perhaps the size of a juicy grapefruit but had a scent much nicer coming his way. It seemed to be floating not on the breeze, which was odd; the bubble was approaching Lexal despite a breeze coming in off the ocean pushing against it. It seemed almost to be dancing forward towards him and bumped gently against Lexal’s chest. Very much unlike a bubble, it did not pop, but bounced off. More were floating out from the grasses as Lexal prodded the bubble with the claw of a finger curiously. His finger sank firmly into the surface, almost as if he was prodding a slime, before the bubble sprang backwards. He felt several more of the bubbles bump into him softly before one mushed up firmly against his nose, clogging his senses with powerful fruity aroma.
Lexal opened his mouth and felt the bubble start to squeeze in, reaching down his throat much like a slime, but instead of a goopy heaviness it was just a light, sweet airy flavor, as if those sweet smelling soaps actually tasted as good as they smelled. The shark’s hands moved to poke at the other bubbles as they bounced around, some of them wobbling playfully and others coming together to squish and combine… combine?
Lexal’s hand ran along his belly and felt it bowing outward as the bubble kept filling it but… this was far more than a single bubble! He looked down to see bubbles floating up and combining with the one in his muzzle. He grabbed ahold of the bubble and tried to pull it back out, but his hands sank into the sides, failing to grasp at anything at all. He was helpless to stop the bubble from sinking in and stretching his gut forward and out. No, this belly was reserved for SUSHI!!! He put his hands on his stomach and tried to squeeze the bubbles back out and yet the amount of bubbles not contained in Lexal’s ballooning wait continued to diminsh as it began to grumble and groan as it reached the size of a beachball. The last of the bubbles slid down Lexal’s throat and left the shark with a large rounded gut to examine. Um… huh.
Now… what? He prodded his stomach and felt it wobble and shake with a very airy appeal. Instead of a stuffed gut it almost floated upwards, as if it wanted to float upon the breeze. Lexal took one step and felt his body try to roll forward… oh dear. He felt awfully light suddenly. His stomach lurched forward into the grass as if being tugged and the shark had no choice but to bound forward. He looked back towards the beach with a weak whimper.
Tugged along by his bubbled belly, Lexal took great bounding jumps through the beach grass. His gut rumbled with excitement though the actual thought spiraling through the shark’s mind were not of the same energy. The tugging stopped and he came to a bouncy rest in the center of the field. Um… uh…?
Lexal’s eyes widened as his stomach began to gurgle and swell even larger. In a panic, he tried to squeeze it down but only forced a burp out of himself as he began to float upwards on the ballooning orb that was his gut. Woah, he was rising fast. He was already up near the clouds… wait, hang on a second…
Lexal coughed and sputtered on the white spun cloud like fluff; it was like ‘nothing’ flavored cotton candy as he whooshed through a low hanging cloud. The top of the cloud had almost a built look to it, like it had been sculpted to form a castle, and now the bubbles in his belly were floating him towards an open window…
As he floated through, it was hard to make out shapes within the room’s walls but he floated down to rest on his blimped belly on a fluffy but solid floor. With a groaning creak, fluffy white bars slid down in front of the window, trapping Lexal in the room. He struggled to try and get on his feet as a very small door opened. A puff of smoke billowed into the room before taking an almost cat-like shape, solidifying like a creature made of the clouds.
“Ah, you brought back a lovely one this time.” The cloud creature poked at Lexal’s stomach and laughed. “Ah! Round like a ball but still squishy and plenty stretchy! He’s perfect!” Lexal tried to place if the voice was male or female but the creature took a handful of cloud fluff from the walls and began to spin it and stretch it and squeeze it. The cloud took on a rich, vibrant color until it had been pressed into the shape of a delicious looking wedge of cake. “Now eat, you.” The cloud creature held out the cake. Lexal kept his mouth shut and looked up suspiciously but suddenly felt something rising in the back of his throat. His mouth opened and a large extension of bubble began to extend out, and the creature pushed the cake into the opening. Lexal felt it slide down through the bubble, coming to a rest in his stomach.
The creature waved its hands and the rest of the fluff in the room began to flow towards Lexal. Some of it looked like a delicious steak, and as they entered his mouth he could swear he could taste the rich juices. Some looked like a delightful donut, sliding down his throat as bubbles continued to squeeze out. Lexal found himself eagerly munching on the treats as the bubbles continued to float out. He could feel the light airiness of the bubbles leaving, and his belly shrinking and returning to a much less beaching size, and his normal heaviness and firmness of muscle returning… hrm… there was an awful lot of heaviness and suddenly he couldn’t feel his belly shrinking anymore. Lexal opened his eyes from his reverie to find a funneling tornado of cloud food spiraling into his mouth at an alarming rate. Individual flavors were lost in sheer volume as what felt like a feast crammed its way down. His gut was already back to beachball size but was no longer bubbly and floaty, but squishy and dense with food.
Lexal struggled and tried to stand up, covering his mouth with his hands, but the food simply flowed through his fingers and stormed into his stomach, cramming him with calories as a pair of fluffy hands began to massage his gut with a magical tingle. All at once, he felt his body beginning to thicken with fat as the cloud creature coaxed the lard out of his belly. His stomach went from a tightly packed beach ball to a squishy beanbag chair… containing a tightly packed beach ball, and continued swelling as the food swirled into his tummy. His arms were quickly losing their firm and toned definition and becoming doughy and squishy and his chin had just doubled and was rapidly trying to merge with the top of his pearly white chest as fat continued to pack on. Lexal felt his trunks no longer contained a rippling rump but more of a bubble butt and the fabric around the tail slot began to grow tight as his thrashing tail began to become weighed down with lard. He felt his seat on the ground began to sink slowly with a groan… though that may have just been sharkskin beginning to cry out as it was stretched far to contain all of him.
“Once I’m done with you I’ll just pop on that Crystalardzer I stole from the mage’s guild and be ROLLING in dough…” The cloud chuckled. “As will you, my new golden goose. You’ll generate fortunes worth of fat crystals for me for years to come!” Lexal felt himself sinking into the floor as the cloud creature just laughed and massaged his sofa-like stomach. A sudden rumble shook the castle and the funnel of food came to an abrupt halt. “Hang on…” The cloud stepped over to the window and gasped. “What? We’ve never been this low before! We must have taken on a lot of extra weight!” It looked back to Lexal accusingly. “You. This was your doing. My cloud castle is barely even keeping up above the ocean now and-”
Lexal felt himself fall through the cloud floor and almost immediately hit the water’s surface with a colossal splash. He looked up to see the cloud castle rocketing back skywards, no longer weighed down by a fat shark. He floated in the water for a few moments, trying to massage his stomach before his eyes shot open. The Luau!!!
Lexal rolled over to try and see the shore… there! In the distance! He began to thrash forward in the water, swinging his tail and doing the best stroke he was capable of with round doughy arms. This was unacceptable!
The bloated shark dragged himself out of the water to see the tent and the long tables already set up. He grabbed a dolphin by the shoulders and, after catching his breath, began to beg. “Pleeeeease tell me I didn’t miss the Luau… PLEASE!!!” He shook him by the shoulders and blushed as he felt his body wobble and jiggle with lard.
“Of… course you didn’t. We’re starting in five minutes.” Said the dolphin. “But do you want to maybe go to town and get…” He reached out and patted Lexal’s massive waist. “That… taken care of first?”
“No time!!” Lexal waddled forward and planted his rear on a bench, feeling it immediately be crushed into the ground under his rump. “I’d rather explode than risk missing this! One for the sushi eating contest!” He burped and groaned; he was still drum tight. He glared down at his stomach. “Now listen here, belly. I know I’ve asked a lot of you but if you bail on me I will see to it that the only thing you ever see again is sugar free.” A loud, panicked gurgle rose from his belly, though perhaps it was just gurgling with a load of cloud food.
“Sir, are you alright?” The dolphin waiter paused. “Normally our patrons don’t have to talk to their stomachs…”
“It’s okay!” Said Lexal. “I just got stuffed recently and I don’t usually talk to it but my gut needs a pep talk or else it’s going to try to-”
“Sir, are you sure it’s wise to come to an eating contest pre-stuffed?” Lexal belched and rubbed his belly.
“Do I tell you how to live your life? Bring me sushi!!!” Lexal pounded his fists onto the table.
“The contest won’t start for another hour.” Said the dolphin.
“Well bring me a controller then!” Cried Lexal. “It’ll give me time to digest!” He suppressed another burp and then realized how rude he was being. “Um, sorry, it’s not easy to-”
“Of course sir.” The dolphin grabbed one of the game controllers and brought it over.
The ‘winner’s cart’ struggled to push Lexal uphill as he held his bright blue ribbon in majesty and triumph. It wasn’t held so much as stuck onto his belly, which at this point was nearly seven feet across and wobbling with every cobblestone the Borking Shark’s industrial weight cart rolled over. They dropped him off outside Medoleus’ office with a jiggling THUMP and rang the doorbell for him before congratulating him once again on his victory in the sushi eating contest. Medoleus answered the door groggily as the Courtesy Carters from the Borking Shark returned off to the clean-up for the Luau.
“I… had no idea the Luau even had this much food.” Said Medoleus.
“I.. had pre-existing fatness beforehand.” Said Lexal, shrugging as much as his thickened shoulders would allow.
“I suppose one fat conversion for you, then?” He reached out with his Crystalardzer and planted it on Lexal’s stomach before sliding out a basin to catch the crystals as they slid out. “I’ll check on you in an hour. I’m going to have to figure out how to make a faster converter with you two!”
Lexal laughed until his mind deciphered the words as a grin spread across his face. “Wait, you two?”
“Um… forget I said anything.” Medoleus smiled and shrugged before shutting the door. Lexal wobbled and stretched to look in the window. He could just see the hint of a large, lard laden, navy blue backside through it and chuckled. He took a deep breath.
“Hey TYREX!” He saw the bloated figure in the window cringe. The area was silent for awhile. “Hey Tyrex I know you’re in there! At least you were able to fit in the front door! How was your day, fatso?” A few more moments of silence before finally…
“Goddamit…” Lexal giggled at the frustration in Tyrex’s voice before relaxing. Ah, it was all worth it. Best Sushi Day ever.
