Log Year 4, Month 8, Day 15, Test 16, Formulas 23-42: The Chimera's are becoming more and more fearsome... And more stable. The Hippo Launcher and the Swinestein have stopped melting spontaneously, the Kangashark's aggression genes have finally kicked in... Resulting in a rather... Unfortunate, messy casualty of one of the soldiers. But that's for the barracks officer to log. Now, perhaps the most key feature of this log is the growth of experiment Ultimo, whom I've been monitoring carefully since the day I fertilized the incubation tank. He is now... It is now walking on four legs steadily, not stumbling around clumsily anymore now that he... It has grown into its legs. And it knocked a leg out from one of the tables, spilling various utensils on top of its body, however no harm befell Ultimo, save for a few shallow cuts from the scalpels. The cuts healed within minutes, so its regeneration gene is working well, but... *Sigh* I've taken quite a liking to him- er it... It's so childlike, so human even... It's become playful, energetic. It pays attention to where I am at all times, it craves attention and responds to affection. I've worked so closely with Ultimo this past year, that it has become like a kid to me... Why I've invested more time and care into my creation than with my actual son lately. Not like I really have a choice, er um anyway... I've decided on my next augmentation to add to it. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest when I saw all that lab equipment land on him- uhm, it, earlier, and sunk to my shoes when I saw blood trailing down his back, however small the cut was. It didn't seem to feel much pain if any, but it's still vulnerable. I don't want it to be vulnerable, I've come to care for it too much. I want to make Ultimo invulnerable, not even a missile strike should hurt him... It. My colleagues say I should distance myself from it. I've given this consideration, but have come to the conclusion that my attachment to Ultimo will work to its benefit. Moreover, this is the only peace and happiness I'll find here, I need him- uhm it..... Him. I need him as much as he needs me. *Labored grunt* Ahh. Next experiment planned, invulnerability. I'll need to install a fail-safe in case he goes rogue, but I've yet to introduce aggression genes into his DNA. Hmmm. His smile is oddly... Cute. I will see about retracting his lips a little too, so that his smile would never leave his face. I'll say it's a cosmetic decision to make him look more fearsome, always baring his teeth. But we'll keep that our little thing, won't we Ultimo? *Growly, childlike giggling* Heheheh... The soldiers will see it as vicious, but you and I, we'll know... I wonder if the speech recognition is starting to work too? I look into his eyes and I see more than just a vacant stare. He turns his head when I say his name. I know they don't want him to be too intelligent, only able to take orders, but... He's supposed to be perfect, I can't not maximize on his brain capacity. Hippocampus of an elephant, hypothalamus of a stallion, cerebellum of chimpanzee, amygdala of a human being. I cannot make him any less than any of these. I will make him smart. I will make him invincible. He will be the ultimate chimera. I may not have much investment in the Pigmask army's agenda personally... But I can invest everything in you, my child. *Playful, cooing growls* End of log.
