Same. Last thing I remember was a Yata-Garasu loop that was probably errata'd out shortly after which was... Probably around 2002

It was never errata'd - it was banned at some point though I believe. Not as stupid as chaos emperor dragon. That began the death spiral, and I quit once it went full weaboo with the elemental hero crap.
