I've had the idea for these guys for a LONG time, and now they're finally here! Decided to post a species guide to see if anyone would be interested in them with me :3 Gotta keep those forests safe!
These guys are a closed species created by me and I would appreciate everyone respecting that.
I really hope you guys like them! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to say so!

Name
Silkos (means Forest Shepherd)
Species/Genus
Deus Fecit (god made) -- mammalia
Diet
They are omnivores with a preference for greens and berries. When food is scarce, such as winter months, they will dine on meat, but prefer carrion over killing prey animals. Their favorite foods are sweet things like honey and flowers.
Habitat
They live wherever there is a forest, be it a small glade or huge rainforest. They tend to stay in the forest of their birth, but will migrate if the forest is destroyed or if it is overpopulated with Silkos.
Enemies
While being the apex predator in any region they reside, they can be overcome by predators who attack in numbers. Young Silkos are the most vulnerable and can be taken out by a single predator, much like a young fawn. Deforestation is the biggest risk to Silkos. If one goes to long with a forest to call home, it will die.
Reproduction/Mating
Female Silkos reach sexual maturity in their 10th year while males reach sexual maturity in their 15th year. Silkos are monogamous -- to an extent. When a male and female mate, they will raise the offspring together and seek each other out again for the next mating season. However, if the female deems the male no longer the best option, she can refuse him and find another, more fitting, male.
Offspring
They tend to have 1-3 offspring per breeding and will take care of them through their 5th year. If there happens to be a runt in the litter, it will be given a chance to be taken in by males or females that had chosen to not mate. If no one takes in the runt, it will be killed. Twins are rare, but highly desired.
Temperament
Silkos are very peaceful creatures. Their main goal in life is to keep their forest healthy and protected, which generally means they live relaxed, calm lives. When faced with danger or a threat, though, they will fight, and their anger is not to be underestimated. Much like a bull “seeing red,” an angered Silkos will dog its opponent until the threat is nullified, either by the threat leaving or being killed.
Antlers
Each Silkos will have a power granted to it by their dreamcatcher antlers. The power is determined based off what adornments (feathers, stones/gems, bones, etc) are attached to their antlers. The main adornments are chosen upon reaching sexual maturity, and more items can be added over time to enhance the power or add another.
Power Types
Each Silkos starts with one power, which will stay their main one. If deemed worthy, they may be granted another power, with this maxing out at two normal powers per Silkos. These powers can be combined to create a new combined power, maxing out at one combined power per Silkos. This is a list of all possible powers and will be updated as more are added. Rarity of powers is to be determined.
Water
-Can purify water sources
-Can give nourishing/life-granting water to dying plants. Note: this will dehydrate the Silkos if used too frequently
Spirit
-Can take life from one source and give to a dying plant/animal. Note: the source taken from will die
-Can grant a protection aura around young animals, granting them invisibility from predators
Fire
-Can inhale/eat fire to stop a forest fire. Note: this will hurt the Silkos with damage based on how much fire is swallowed
Earth
-Can cause localized mini-earthquakes or create quicksand.
Air
-Can purify air
-Can shift air currents to bring storm clouds closer/push away.
-Can cause localized mini-tornados
Combined Powers
-EarthxWater
-Can create new bodies of water/reroute rivers or streams
-WaterxAir
-Can create storm clouds
General Details
--The coat coloration of a Silkos depends on the forest it inhabits. Those living in the arctic tend to have greyish/white coats, while those living in the rain forest tend to have deep green coats with pops of color and so on. If a Silkos migrates to a different climate, it will shed its coat during the migration and grow one more fitting.
--Much like the Chinese Water Deer, the fangs of the Silkos are able to move slightly. When grazing, they are relaxed and angled towards the back. When attacked or feeling threatened, the fangs are moved forwards.
--Species who live in temperate climates, or climates that have distinct seasons, will have a spring/summer coat and fall/winter coat.
--When choosing a mate, the male must impress the female in a match of strength.
--Silkos are not communal creatures and will only come together in groups during mating season.
--Silkos can charge things in short bursts as well as stand on their hind legs momentarily.
I really hope you guys like them! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to say so!
