This is a re-up..
Now with postproduction depth of field!
Duuude! Check out my new wallpaper that I. MADE. MY. SELF.
WOO!
This one was interesting... I had to work with a lot more complicated issues than usual.
First, texturing the happy lil' guy in the middle was a pain because he's made of so many polygons. That is, it was until I learned that professionals have magical tools that allow you to define seams of the mesh, break it apart, and flatten it out as UV's, thereby making the whole thing as easy as clicking a couple buttons. I. Love. This tool.
Next, that little sunburst thing. I tried for a while to make it a face on the actual street, but it led to some issues. Then I detached the face, but that made it cast shadows, so instead of having the edges be the same color, I had to give it a transparency map. Finally, filling the hole the face left screwed up the geometry so badly that I had to rebuild the street.
And THEN when I got around to lighting the scene, the lights simply refused to obey the linking, that is to say, they illuminated things I told them not to. So I deleted all the lights and made new ones, which fixed it.
Next, the renderer decided it was going to erase all the shading on the edges of the sidewalks, thereby making the street a flat plane. Making a new camera fixed this one.
OY.
