So there has been a request for more of my dragon work. As a servant to my fans I must oblige. So here will begin a series of my old fantasy work. Looking back over the years I am fairly certain that I must make prints of some of the pieces I still own.
This was a commissioned dragon by of Myr http://www.furaffinity.net/user/dragonmyr. I played with some poses from various animal anatomy books I have collected. This one was semi based off a horse pose. The clouds were friggen fun to do and was only accomplished with first laying down a layer of white oil primer. It took forever to build up the colors and then move them in place, but it was totally worth it. Things I learned from this piece is paying attention to the placement of characters and background layout. I ran out of space on the canvas and his beautiful giant wings got slightly clipped on the right. And although I am absolutely in love with my mountain, it does sort of look like he's climbing/leaning on it rather than dragon dancing in the sky.
This is a pure oil piece 2ft by 3ft and was painted in my college dorm. I am a huge fan of these water miscible oil paint I use. They tend to dry a bit faster than traditional oils, but the fact that I can wash my brushes with soap and water was critical in my itty bitty dorm room. Turpentine fumes are not your friend.

I really like the dragon's patterns. They're more like insect colorations rather than a traditional dragon's. the mix of red, orange and blue is nice, because the orange and red mix well, but the blue really makes certain details stand out. My only critique is that his center belly plate looks very 'round', more like a bulge than a plate.
