You were no slouch in 2008 either.

There are definitely lots of things you've improved upon. Most notably I'd say is your line work. It's just simply less sloppy. Taking the guitar as an example, the old one is a guitar but it lacks foundation. It doesn't look like a solid object. The new guitar, though, looks fantastic and is clearly a solid material with clear shape and definition. You're definitely someone to look up to as an artist~
