Rio Haryanto ran out of money after the German Grand Prix, Esteban Ocon (A Renault F1 reserve driver and Mercedes Development Driver.) has taken his seat.
So, Yay to German Manufacturer development program sponsorship money filling in for Indonesian government sponsorship money!

As slick as F1 cars are I've never been able to get much into the series at all. Partially for practical reasons (considering I live in the US, most of the races air at ungodly hours of the morning I have no hope of being awake for), but other personal reasons too-F1 at times can be a little TOO equipment at times for my liking, you can easily have year after year where one manufacturer just makes everybody else their bitch and practically strangleholds the top spot all year long except for the rare races they have trouble in. Being a fan of a bit more parity, that can get a little old fairly quickly unless you REALLY like the manufacturer in question or their drivers. Plus I'm REALLY not fond of the team order aspect you often see show up in this sport. I know there have been several races over the years where a driver on his way to victory was ordered to pull over and let his teammate win because the points meant more for him and he's the team's #1 driver. I don't know, maybe that's just a minor grudge for some but stuff like that pisses me off a lot. *I* would never pull over for my teammate even if I was being ordered to, he'd have to get around me on his own. I'm not against HELPING your teammate when you can but throwing races for him would be where I draw the line. If I got told to lay over for my teammate and let him win instead I'd promptly ignore them and just go for the victory. And then I would promptly get fired after the race and replaced with another driver who will be more than happy to do as they're told, and that would be the last race I'd ever run
I do know a lot about the history of F1 though even though I've never had an avid interest in (I'm more America-centric motorsports interested myself). Man was open-wheel racing BRUTAL 30-40 years ago. I have my utmost respect for guys like Sir Jackie Stewart who stepped up to crusade for safety and increase conditions for drivers over the years. And watching the famous footage of David Purley trying to (and sadly, failing) to save his fellow countryman Roger Williamson from asphyxiating to death under his upside-down burning car in the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix brings manly tears to my eyes. Now THAT's a true friend and selfless individual right there-it's so sad he WASN'T able to save him in time Such a damn shame the safety crews back then were usually INCREDIBLY poor at their jobs!
