Why bother wasting your time with what you shoulda, coulda, woulda done? What's done is done, and there's no changing that, all we can do is look back at our past and use that to improve our future

Yes...I know. Trouble is, someone in my life can't learn that lesson and never will. That particular mental illness is something of a kraken, all slime and black water and ship breaking bullsh*t, haunting you through so many years that should have been happy.

It's one of the reasons I hate words, they never work for long in that arena.

Sounds like this someone is very close to you. I hope that s/he realizes that the past isn't what defines them. I hope that they manage to save themselves from this shipwreck you're describing. It's always hardest to remember the good times when you can only view them through glasses tainted by pain and grief, though eventually even the cloudiest of glasses clear up. It will take time, but things do get better

Maybe you're just not using them to their fullest potential, words can be very powerful when strung together with care and devotion. I feel like there's no one in this site whose words could carry more meaning
