These gorgeous atmospheric environments.. Do you work with ref or is this all in your head? Whatever I do, mine always feel flat.

I use reference! I have a large folder of inspiring landscape photos that I've collected. I don't directly copy the photos but I do use them to figure out how to handle certain lighting/details or for inspiration for a setting.
