I may not agree with their choices but I'm not going to call them morons for making them. And the reason for the killing ALMOST makes sense in the context of the world BUT is horribly out of character for Felina. And if I recall, at the time they were leading into Infinite Crisis so everything had to get dark.
Except it's just too cliche, the old comics never depicted racial (or in this case species) hatred and having her declare 'cats hate mice' just isn't contextually appropriate to the comic. It's as bad as the restarted Biker Mice From Mars bringing in a horribly stereotypical evil cat race with robot cat vehicles. Just some slapped on killing as the quick way to say 'see it's all dark and real now', and using a very nonsensical justification for it. A discontinuity really, since just because things end up going into Infinite Crisis doesn't require it get dark. A light holding out against the darkness is always welcome.
Wait, what? When did this happen? And whoever greenlighted that *was* a moron, if for no other reason than they, as TV Tropes put it, Didn't Do The Research. To wit--Alley had a *team-mate* who was a mouse, and afaik she had no animosity whatsoever towards him--she seemed to think he was cute, in a 'young kid' sort of way.
Happened years ago but yes someone of a moronic standing did okay it and frankly Didn't Do the Research probably wasn't the deal more 'I don't care about the past history of the characters going to do it my way'. Much like quesada having spider-man bargain with mephisto no matter how much of his well known history (including past tortures at the hands of Mephisto) shows he'd have never made such a bargain simply to push through what he wanted.
Marvel and DC have been eroding in quality for almost 20 years now, with things like continuity and adherence to character development now the rarity instead of what should be the standard. We can see that sadly all over the place, like the X-men and that swapping Scott over to Emma Frost just because some fans hated Jean and favored her, and completely tossing his general personality that showed a rarity of being human enough to actually grieve over losses instead of just shrugging and moving on.

While I have very little knowledge of the series, after reading the wiki, I think they said something about an evil imposter Alley Cat killing Cheese.
...Like I said though, I read this on Wikipedia so I could be wrong. Overall, this sounds like a franchise I shouldn't get attached to because, chances are, it will just depress me if I do.
