...OK. Checked the date in the one comic where his age was mentioned. Twenty two year old. My excuse is that every other adult male in this comic seems to be ripped. Even Jacob... no offence, you wear it well.

While he could have handled it a lot better, Daniel does have good reason to be wary of Nick. There's a lot of very bad blood between the two clans.

Regarding the ripped-ness of the characters, that tends to be the case with adventurers. Daniel is one, Nigel too. Syd was training to be one and has been keeping his body toned even after he quit. Same with Simeon.
Jakob used to pose as an adventurer and yes, he does look good that way.
Others, e.g. Enoch, Richard, Nick, Matt, Niall, Neremath and Dorcan prior to his execution, tend to be lean and effeminate.
Though even then they often have some degree of abs.
