The second day we got out to Wyoming, the red 1998 3/4 gasoline Chevy Silverado's engine blew (well actually it spun a barring, but either way it's not in operating condition). We used my dad's truck for less than a week and I had called my mom up and asked her to help us out with getting a new truck (We have the money for it, but not the credit for a loan- stupid isn't it?)
I present...... the overly muddy (Blame the driver, he likes to find muddy spots on the road to go through.) 2006 Chevy Silverado 1 ton duramax diesel with an allison transmission. This particular truck was a steal of a deal because of it's price and for all the features it has.
The previous owner turned it in as an early out of his lease on it, so we ended up with a very nice and clean and practically brand new long box pickup with plenty of special features to boot. Basically, you name it, this truck has it.
Unfortunately the second day we got it, we hit a baby mule deer on the way to work >_< The damage was extremely minimal, however. All it did was dent the chrome on the bumper slightly, and broke the cover on one of the fog lights as well as the plastic holder for it (big deal right?) The cost to fix that was about $800..... talk about not worth it. The light actually still works >3 but it can't be mounted on the front and the plastic on the front just broke a little bit. We decided not to bother with it because we're just going to put a ranchand on it anyway. At least with one of them you won't have to worry as much about hitting the wildlife. Hey! Look at the bright side :D We could've hit one of the antelope since all they do is just run run run and they don't care what's in their path, they're just going to keep going! (We make fun of them and call them CANTalopes because they're so stupid. They don't taste very good either because they eat all the sage brush Xp)
It looks prettier when it's not all muddied up, but it collects lots of dust cause of the dirt road. It's just a nice dark blue. When all cleaned up you'd swear it's a brand new truck right off the lot.
The white thing that's in front of the truck is our place. We're working on getting rid of it and getting a brand new one (bigger, better, nicer, and everything works, plus it'll come equipped for winter months- this one isn't...... oh well, it's my dad's anyway and was free, so we just used it until we could pick up something ourselves).
Why that big/heavy of a truck? Gasoline engines can't pull as much as a diesel. Also, the diesel engines tend to last longer. This thing can pull around just about anything you need it to pull PLUS when you use it for every day use, it does get very good gas millage (shockingly). It'll get about 20-25 on the highway and down to 14-16 in town. Not bad for that big of a truck.
Why do we have an RV? We work construction jobs. The money you spend per month for your lot rent, you'd spend per week for a hotel/motel room. (Yeah, it's not that pretty to live out of a hotel.) Also, getting a house/apartment with buddies and stuff is still more expensive and becomes a problem when you need to pack up and move again. At least with these things, you OWN your house and when you have to go somewhere, all you do is put stuff away, put the slideouts back in, hook it up to the truck, and go to wherever you need to be at.
Normally we stay in one area for anywhere from 3 months to almost a year or even more. Why do we have jobs with a construction company? The pay is extremely good. Currently his newest job pays him more than what him and I both made with our previous construction company, so I may not work right now, but it doesn't hurt us at all. With this we're able to afford a brand new RV ($300+ a month), rent lot ($400-$500 a month), truck payment + insurance for it *everything on the truck is in my mom's name and is all Michigan sate stuff- if it was Wyoming stuff, it'd be cheaper yet* ($700 a month) and other bills such as food, propane, dog stuff, gas, and after all bills are paid we do have enough left over for things like me to get materials for fursuits and stuff.
The truck (I don't think) isn't coming with to AC 09, I think we're taking his Ford Galaxie now that we're able to fix it. It depends, though. If we have to take Sheba with, we're taking the truck because there won't be enough room in the car for all the stuff plus two dogs.
I'd rather raise my own money to go to AC with because it makes me feel better as opposed to using the money he makes (it doesn't matter if we're married, we both like having our own separate stuff so we can do our own separate thing and spend it on what we want.)

That's what he said LOL i told him go wash it off and he's like "but I like the mud D:" so I just gave up on telling him to wash it. Besides, when we do, it just ends up looking like this all over again.
The dirt out here has a high consistency of clay and when it's wet, it's chaos trying to drive through it, when it's dry, it makes really nice pretty big dust clouds....... so I feel sorry for whoever decides to drive behind us when we're going down the road at 50+

lol I've noticed the same thing. Actually out here it's a red clay and sand mix. Kentucky was kind of just crappy sandy dirt that had clay in it. The other half of this state wasn't any better.
I don't get it- every construction site I've gone to so far is all clay, but I know other places around the state aren't. Why the hell are we building stuff on the clay?!

i gess it just more solid ground to build in i know its a pain to dig in so it probably just so the footers dont slide around
its the story of my life im eather sliping around in clay or trying to drive a fence post into a slab of slate
by the way just out of wondering what trade are you guys in im a mason my self

I worked office work and helped out with mechanics while my husband worked as the mechanic on the last job site. For this next one I'm out for the count, they didn't have anything for me, but he does grade checking. Went from laborer to grade checker in just a couple of days- was nice. Earns about the same as a scraper opperator
Nice. The job we had at the windfarm was bs. They talked about promoting and so on and so forth but 8 months later, my husband never got it. He had operators cards, but the company came back at the end and said "They're no good now, they're only valid within our company and we just changed our rules so anyone who had one is no longer certified." Mastec wasn't too nice to us either, even though they owned the company we worked for. Tetratech were total jackasses to everyone who worked for Power Partners and thanks to them, the project has to be REDONE. It'll be about another year now before it's done, but they kicked all Power Partners personell off the jobsite as of today (We were laid off back in January, they asked us to come back at the same pay we were getting and all Justin said was 'fuck that, I make more money with this job'.)
Now he works for Windslow Construction and when they finish the road project they're working on (fixing up an 8 mile strip and building a batch plant) they'll let him know where they're going and who the next employer is. If he gets in with Simon Contractors I could quite possibly get back into the office work.
I'm no good for a laborer, too skinny/scrawny. I can lift a lot, yeah, but because I don't have a whole lot of muscle/body mass it's pretty easy for me to screw something up. The last job I had like that totally fucked up my back and it took a month for a chiropractor to get it back to normal (muscles ended up all twisted, pinched and pushed on nerves and even popped two vertebra out of place). So I'm no longer qualified to do any work like that >_<

My dad's still trying to fix it. He thought he was so smart and he's like "Oh give me two days and it'll be fixed." .... 2 months later, I'm still waiting :\
He offered to just keep that truck for himself and keep his dual wheel for hauling (which is a good idea because that dodge eats gas).
