My very good friend Bruce called my boyfriend while he was here at my house tonight to tell him that he'd heard of Steve Irwin's death on the radio.
It was 10:44 PM on September 3rd. I miss him already. And to show my love for this great man, I made a doll to commemerate his life.

I'll miss his unbelievably happy voice as, right after nearly getting bitten/gored/clawed/etc. by some irate creature, he'd say "Wasn't that exciting?". He had this wide-eyed wonderment and total ability to risk his life simply to make others aware of nature and the animals that they'd otherwise not see. He cut through apathy, and probably paved the way for many young zoologists/conservationists.
