"Toony" is a creative and stylistic dead end. Twist whatever you can, I say.

I wouldn't call cartooning a stylistic or creative dead-end.

It just has different goals than more realistic stylings.

I did not refer to cartooning, I merely meant adhering to a specific, pre-existing arbitrary system for depicting details, expressions, motions and such without ever using any items of reference other than the works of the one(s) whose system is imitated. Which I do not accuse you of attempting, it is just what comes to my mind when I see "toon" without the "car" in front of it. It is a comment I should not have made.

On that note, we are in agreement.

Too often do I see an artist who is pretty much merely repeating the steps of some successful toony style without imparting any of their own creative ideas onto it.

So I try to break the rules I learn from time to time
