I commissioned this piece to honor my family's heritage. We are Japanese, Mongolian, and British. (With lots of other little tidbits of races mixed in, which you can see in my gallery). I myself am Buddhist-Hindu Orthodox.
This scene is from a very popular legend of the Buddha himself, in which they say his meditative state had reached its highest level. His disciples meditated with him, and as it began to rain, an enormous Cobra, larger than any species had ever been seen in India, protected the Buddha from the rain with it's own body.
