Here's a pic of all my old Pokemon VHS tapes from my childhood, these are of course the old 3 episode per tape releases from Viz Video/Pioneer in the late 90s/early 2000's. I watched these videos all the time when i was little. I'm surprised that they even still play good after all the many viewings endured by them.
Watching any one of these is a nostalgic trip like nothing else, it takes me back to the old days when the Pokemon craze was still in full swing!!!

Man, VHSs, I feel so old now. Never did I imagine, back in the day, we'd be watching movies off discs or let alone in the palm of our hands. I remember my 3rd grade teacher always brought a tape of Pokemon to class to let us watch an episode when we finished our studies early. I remember my very first episode being Battle aboard the Saint Anne.
Yup i know right, i know that most of these came from the Blockbuster or Movie Gallery near where we used to live, alas they both closed down many moons ago. I still remember when my dad would buy some from these places, heck i remember when stores like Wal-Mart still carried these.
Fuck'n Blockbuster, man. Another thing from the 90s I really miss. Each trip was it's own adventure, you go there for something without really knowing if it was in stock or not, and sometimes came home with something else and had just as memorable an experience. I even remember playing Pokemon Stadium on the N64 kiosks there for hours on end with random kids.
Well, at the time, distributors were still very used to the VHS format, and the DVD format was still kinda new. So it's no surprise they cost a bit more. Nowadays, you can get DVDs for $10 whereas the BDs cost almost five times as much.

Yup that was the late '90s/early 2000's for you, as it wasn't until a few years in that DVD caught on and started slowly becoming the majority format.
Oh yes, all those video stores were something else back in the day. They've all but disappeared over the last few years.
