I use charizard in smash as well but what I like to do is knock them off the edge, then use flamethrower until they overshoot the edge, I then follow that up with a down or foward smash (what I like to call the 'set-up and smash) it doesn't work all the time but it's fairly low risk.

I often go for a spike myself, if I'm feeling mean enough.

Everytime I do it because of the quick drop mechanic I sometimes end up in trouble, though I sometimes surprise players by following them with a forward aerial, I've KO'd quite a few players with a well placed forward aerial. For ultimate safety once my percentage hits 80% I start going for the up throws once my opponent is in the 110-120% range (some of them still manage to worm their way out of it at times though).

Up throw can be easy to DI to survive, so it helps to mix it up and use forward throw instead, because it can KO players who are holding the control stick downwards to survive what could have been an up throw. Works especially well near the ledge, too.

I didn't even know you could hold the joystick down to avoid that. I've been seriously sucking as of late. Problem being 'too much offense not enough defense'
