Backstory:
Millie was originally owned by a family in the 50’s/idk how the Toyena timeline lines up with our world. She was a housekeeper and nanny for the family's two young children. She was loved by the children and was happy when the family had a third. But her joy did not last long. As the child grew, he became increasingly more afraid of Millie, not letting her, or any other Toyenas near get him. At first the family tried to show him that Millie was nothing to be afraid of, but to no avail. Eventually they gave up and decided to get rid of Millie. They promptly drove her out into a remote field and left her to wind herself down. And there she stayed for many years.
After years of sitting alone and unprotected in a field, she was found by a person most advantages to her situation. A man by the name of James. James salvaged and repaired old Toyenas and sold them second hand. He took her home and fixed her up. Then, after too many years, she was finally rewound. As she opened her eyes in an unfamiliar place, she was greeted by the sweet smile of James's young daughter, who had taken a liking to her. Seeing her gave Millie a flash of hope and a need to care for the child. This brought on her sentience.
In the end, after much convincing from Emma, James's daughter, they decided to let Millie stay with them. Their last Toyena companion had fallen apart beyond repair, and James thought Millie would help ease the loss for Emma.
Millie then began taking care of Emma almost full time. James had no ill intent, but was none the less a poor father. He obsessed over work to an unhealthy level and had no idea how to care for a child. He had a bad temper and his job required him to be gone for days, even weeks, at a time. Because of his absence, they ran into a problem, the old heavy key on Millie's back was too hard for Emma to wind, so she would run out of wind before James could return, leaving Emma alone. To solve this problem, James gave Millie a second, smaller key that would be easier for Emma to wind. This key was meticulously crafted to fit perfectly with Millie’s already existing mechanisms, and does not have a second AI attached to it. Unfortunately, because of her second key, Millie must be kept hidden. There are laws against Toyenas with multiple AI’s as they are dangerous, and despite the fact that Millie doesn't have a second AI, she would still be confiscated immediately and destroyed because of her second key, along with further repercussions against James.
