Another view of the XB-70 Valkyrie. The aircraft was a prototype bomber designed to cruise at Mach 3. Two were built and flown. Serial number 2 was destroyed in 1966 after a mid-air collision with an F-104 during a formation flight for a photoshoot. Serial number 1 flew from 1964 through 1969, when it was flown to its current home at the museum.
Yes, that’s an SR-71 Blackbird in the foreground.

I think you're being fooled by the canard (the tiny wing near the nose) and the slight distortion caused by the wide-angle lens. The wing itself is a rather large delta. That silver aircraft at the extreme left of the photo is sitting under the Valkyrie wing. You can see it better in the Wikipedia article. Follow the link in the description.
I see what you mean. I almost forgot, if you go back to my panorama of the gallery here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20867708/ you can see the entire plane better and from above. It's at the far right side, so you'll probably have to scroll the image to get there.
the proportions seem better in that picture though the design of that plane is still pretty interesting.
though it's not as interesting as some of the other aircraft in there, im surprised that the engineers even considered the design of some of those things (though they likely did all the math behind it and knew it would likely work) (mostly referring to the ones under the Valkyrie's intake)
pretty sad that i haven't seen many modern/current experimental aircraft. most interesting aircraft iv seen recently would likely be the F-35, and osprey. though i am liking the looks of SpaceX's, and Blue Origin's self landing rockets (i miss all the space plane research though)

oh that's how those things flew lol.
pretty much completely forgot the aircraft that use the body for lift (my brother told me about them a few years ago, guess i forgot about them). really love the look of those things, would be amazing to see more of them (they really remind me of all the Sci-fi concept space craft)
just checked the wiki article, and found of that the dream chaser is still in development. i though we have mostly given up space plane like things. glad to hear they are still testing it (would be nice if they could get a little extra funding though)
