Closely related to the Pentecost Rainbow Gryphette http://bjpentecost.deviantart.com/a.....ette-141229550
The rainbow cachobie gryphette (cachobie gryphette for short) is so named for its tendency to hollow out rainbow cachobie fruit and string them up to make little homes. Entire rainbow cachobie cities can be seen hanging from the high boughs, glowing blue-green at night.
They share much in common with their Pentecost rainbow gryphette cousins, though, they are smaller, slightly shorter-lived, and tend more towards pair-bonding. They also sport retractile claws and store an extremely sticky, viscous saliva in their crop which they spit at predators. Female cachobie gryphettes are more colorful than their Pentecost counterparts and play a more active role in foraging.
Cachobie gryphettes have been known to play pranks on people and they are notorious thieves with a reputation for mischief.

Don't feel bad. It took me a couple of minutes this time.
And once I did that, THEN I could start appreciating the artwork you have bestowed upon us. I'm glad you pre-named this species, or I'd have given it some name filled with deep meaning like "Birdytaur"... ...No Man's Sky has ruined me for naming things!
...Actually, NMS has ruined a LOT of things... *sigh*

I would think it would be the Pentecost rainbow gryphette that did the spitting, for some reason. But what do I know? They ARE your species after all. I also love their little feetie-paws. And I'm wondering. They look pretty small and must have a pretty rapid wingbeat to stay aloft and maneuver, so do they buzz like hummingbirds?
This piece is like a great big piece of candy that I want to suck on all day. It really looks delicious!!
Froggy's pretty easy to find this time. It really helps when the picture isn't infinity pixels X infinity pixels in size.

Well, since you asked.... :B
In my verse, there is something called the Leyonic Field. It is the source whence all psychic phenomena originate. All living beings are connected to it but some entities can interface with it directly. Most beings with wings, for example, can carry at least some of their weight on the ley, allowing them to glide and fly for longer periods of time than would be possible in our reality. It also allows for advanced maneuvering and much easier takeoffs.
All entities have basically two kinds of aeyic buds (the aleythiric structures that allow for interaction with the aleythir which includes the ley) actory and sensory. These grow from leyic nerves. Sensory buds tend to appear all over the body where as actory buds tend to appear in the fingertips, toetips, tail tips, and sometimes the tongue. Horned demons often have very powerful aeyic actory buds in their horn tips.
Winged creatures tend to have aeyic actory buds in their wings which allows them to command the ley to some small extent.
The psychic capacity for most gryphettes is very low but they can make just enough use of it to aid in flying, hovering, and gliding. So there is no need for their wings to beat so quickly. However, due to the nature of their feathers and the manner in which their wings beat against the ley, a very faint wind chime-like sound can be heard when they fly.
So in short, no, they do not hum like humming birds but they do chime like wind chimes. :P
