New apartment, new program... new design.
This is my first time working in Paint Tool SAI, and sweet sassy mollassy does input smoothing make things less of a headache. It actually felt like I was working with the digital tools instead of trying to forcibly bend them into making a cohesive picture. Having a halfway decent brush set helped too, of course.
With each time I drew Syd I became increasingly aware of the improbability of his shawl's design; ditching the vest and going with a more traditional, wrapping-style shawl lends a more mystic feel to his character while only minimally compromising his characterization as an eccentric. The evolution charm no longer does duty as a clasp but instead works as a tasteful brooch.
A good friend wanted to see a reference picture for him; this actually started with him in a purely neutral pose, but I loved this take so much more I decided I'd run with it. It gets the point across, either way, and anything that isn't shown here could surely be trusted to the capable artist in question.
As a bonus, Here's the sketch showing the original 'model sheet' pose.
