I'm torn again on a question for the direction packed should go. Should reskined spine enemies be a thing? It's not a recolor (which is just a change of pallet and not art ), but full redraws of the enemy, with the same animations ( and maybe some new specific ones? ) For example: I've been considering reskinning the rat boss (as a mansion mini-boss), the spear demon (into versions for different areas), and finally the gryphon (simply because I want to draw the gryphon from quest for camelot with his animations.)
Any opinions on this? I was already planning on something similar with a harpy enemy sharing the AI of the bat ladies, but entirely new art for her, but this is more complex as the animation is done by hand and not spine sprites.

I'll likely keep bosses to only one major reskin if so. possibly a final "last refight before the final boss" thing as well, but that is something I need to work out much later. The spear demon may be the most diverse of the reskins though. Possibly one for every major area theme.
Well, I know that since I saw the rat boss it has killed me that he doesn't AV. That, plus certain enemies (no slime vore?) makes me excited at the prospect of reskinned enemies. It opens up opportunities for new dialogue and maybe every now and then a new method of consumption. This would be exciting especially if variants appeared later in the game, to make it to where even the common enemies offer you something new as you progress.
I did look into it and you're right. So that's neat, but I was thinking more along the lines of using a tail to feed him in, or some sort of looping animation similar to the shenzi (sp?) or something... something more visible.
I suppose in due time we'll see if there'll be more AV love.

Reskins - even when they are just straight up color palette swaps - are necessary for creating consistent content in any game. Sometimes the whim of the developer has them revisiting them anyway; go for it!
If you feel that bad about "recycling content", give them an animation that the original enemy does not have.

I see no problem with that. I'm glad you distinguish the reskins from the typical recolors you see in a lot of games, 'cause those are rather bland.
I wouldn't mind seeing different versions of some of your enemies though, especially if their animations are changed a little just to add some flavor.

Go for it hon! It can a, take a mental load off of you potentially, not worrying about what to put where if you feel something was used a bunch already, for example the bat ladies spruced up the mansion considerably even though we've already seen them, if only for the fact they start in uniform, then attack. And b, can let you explore what you want to do, put placeholders, or just be able to flesh out areas better! And as mentioned previously by people, variants seen later on could potentially do slightly different animations or attacks etc to throw the player off!
mini bosses sound cool and i see no problem with re skinning mobs so long as they have some different animations added to them to make them a bit different to the originals. i always love seeing new mobs and what you do with them. but if it saves time and makes it easier on you then re skin are all good with me.
I like the idea of reskinned mobs a bit. Perhaps with similar animations but Im thinking a new animation/attack to throw someone off guard.
Like, for example as people mentioned, an alternate way to get CV'd by the miniboss version of the rat boss. Personally, I'd like it if he'd pull you out and perhaps tried to hypnotize you into part of his pack while transformed.
The spear demon recolors, if it's one per area, perhaps one new attack per or variations of existing animations. Wouldn't want to put too much work, but it would be too easy upon finding say.. The third or fourth version with similar attacks.
I'm sure redskins with transformative/other unique fetishy attacks may make things interesting. Nothing too insane, just to have a sort of sense of progression in the game with tougher enemies.

Reskins are a fine idea, It will add more diversity since you only see some of those enemies a few times in one or two areas anyway, especially bosses.
Doing this though means:
+ enemy interactions
>enemies voring enemies
+ animation completions for the interactions
>Lantern mouse thing finishes animation and absorbs hyena then keeps moving once finished
>i.e rat grabs bat but never finishes and fills as it does the player
+..... feeding the rat boss the smaller rats so his belly grows and he's too full to move >3>!
>This one is just an idea after seeing him suck up the lil guys ... lol
These are just projections however, depending on your willing LOD

I don't see how it could be an issue, It'd be neat to see the big rat again if you ask me. Could even be done to make some interesting little changes, for example the bat lady could easily be made into a male bird given that birds have Cloaca it could even use the same animation while not actually being unbirth [likely closer to av if nitpicking were to be done] or other such things.
I see no issue with reusing animations. While idealistic and interesting, it's not 100% practical to have unique animations for everything. I'm pretty sure even professionals reuse as much as they reasonably can to save on time and data. So doing so yourself shouldn't be a real concern. You already have a number of different animations for enemies, and express intent to do more. Besides, I'll bet a lot of people would really notice that enemy A has the same vore animation as Enemy T at first glance. And lets be honest, there really is only so many ways you can get sucked into an orifice. There's little reason to make two separate yet similar animations when they could share the same one.
The only time reussing like that becomes an issue is if it's used too much. If so many enemies share the same animation to the point that it becomes visually repetitive, then you have an issue. But if you have, say, 12 enemies and 3 pairs share an animation, most people aren't going to notice the match without looking for it.

I would actually quite like the ability to re-fight bosses without having to start a new game for it. Perhaps having an area designated for them near the end of the game or having them placed next to save points at various new dead-ends in the map (so they're not necessary to fight in order to progress - really, I think re-using bosses to pad out a game's play-time is an outdated game trope) might be the way to go.
I'm fine with whatever direction you go with! I am just happy if there are additions I can check on every once in a while! It's like a little present to open up each times. Also I might be in the minority on this one, but I love the dialogue the enemies have and would LOVE to see even more of it if possible!
I'd say if it satisfies you to do so, you should do it. Besides that it also allows you to make minor tweaks and changes to enemies in a certain area making them feel just a bit more like they belong in the places they are found. Really though it seems like I'm echoing a majority at this point, but I just felt like giving my say since it has been a long while. Besides that I'm always just glad to see how you want to update your game, I only wish I knew more about the process of it all so I could appreciate it a bit more, haha.
Your work is very good, I would say why not do a few differences based on what you want to do? I think some reskins adds variation, why, for some reason maybe some would like to be grabbed by an albino rat or black rat for examples, maybe what really sets them apart would be simple dialogue additions and changes? subtlty adds variety and keeps interesting.
Love your work btw, if there is anything you want for assistance don't hesitate to ask, yer awesome! Love the rats, the bats, the harpys, and so many different directions you're going too, what's with the tf scenes! Oh my~

Its up to you in the end, but i think Content should always be priority 1.
Games which tend to focus on too much customization and skin touch-ups like todays shooters tend to have so little developer time devoted to content causing people to put down the game after a short time, where as if the creators focus on content/new gear or collectibles, they become more popular and people want to keep looking around or wanting to farm that rare item etc.
Warframe done it perfectly which is why its one of the biggest games out there lately. They make tonnes of weapons and gear, and focus on content, but opened up the game so that the Community were able to submit new skins and contribute to customization.
Im not saying you need to open it up to the community (even tho i would love to help make stuff :3), but i do think that focusing on new content and either gear or creatures is why people keep checking back here. I check this page daily because i cant wait to see the newest monsters.
I got hooked on games like "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" because there was tonnes of different monsters, tonnes of different weapons, and the map was huuuuuge, it was so fun exploring and finding all the secret rooms and gimmicks. If that game became about Skins...i dont think i would have felt the same about it.
