They need... your lhep... ... .... ........................
So a couple of weekends ago I was out in CT doing odd playdate stuff. I debuted a pink dog partial I made out of a Salvation Army plush toy; no fabric scrap went to waste. He was paired off with a large white plush bunny (that I did not make or wear), and I imagined them both being people who had been kidnapped and forced into mindless plush minion servitude to some maniac toy collector/maker/monster. Said monster took (bad flash lit) photos of his creations as part of the inventory process, and to further weird this out I thought they would make wretched lo-fi meme album cover artwork. They are crying out for help while they still have vague memories of once being humans, but soon even those memories will be lost to them.
So... before it is too late... reach out and... hlep them...

Yeah, I have become interested in that recently given all my weird doll masks I own. As their story evolved, more variations on that theme came forward. Plush toy slaves were the next step. I still have to respond to your email regarding the film project, it is quite of interest.
I've long thought that the lines of fetish and purposeful, genuine GOOD body horror are blurred. Your gallery takes the cake. I'm unnerved but appreciative, and the fact that this comes from a place of fetishism (which in of itself is a deep thing rooted in foreverago) adds this sort of layer that... can't be faked, can't be manufactured.
If this sounds rude, I'm sorry, I'm nearly 2 AM and I stumbled across your gallery and it's amazing! If I made a horror movie I'd want you on my team so badly!

I have better luck veering towards horror than I do with "cute" stuff, even when I genuinely want to do cute! I think this dog character will wind up in something like a horror film, but it will be more a dark fantasy than some bloody mess.
Fetish has been prominent in a lot of my work, I don't deny it. The difference between what I've done in the last 7 years compared to what creative things I did before then is that I finally embraced the weirdness and didn't try to code it or hide it. Lately though I have been looking to veer back into a more conventional narrative form (i.e. not outright porno) while still embracing the strangeness of the images I have explored. My photos are preliminary sketches for certain projects that have been gestating, they say way more than a 1000 words could.

I much prefer something dark than gory, senseless violence. there's enough gory, senseless violence in the world already, I'm more scared by psychological horror, and the concept of being turned into a plushie does the trick. This particular picture also gives me Creep (2014) vibes - lo-fi horror and fetish genre could mix in a way that terrifies mainstream audiences really well.
I find that admirable, honestly, that you stopped trying to hide it. The only issue there is that less people in the mainstream would be willing to even... look for it, I guess, though it holds up as great art in of itself. I'd love to see what you do that's weird-but-not-porn-but-clearly-fetish-motivated. Very glad I found your work!!

I actually just watched Creep about a week ago, it was a pretty effective film with ample discomfort. It had started off as a quirky relationship sort of movie before Blumhouse became involved and coaxed it into more horror themed territory, but I think that made it a better film in the long run. That werewolf mask that he dubbed Peachfuzz was well chosen!
I concur that I get a lot more thrills and excitement from psychological thrillers than I do blood and guts. As a former gorehound I still have a high tolerance for that stuff but it doesn't really interest me on most levels, mostly because it is either poorly executed or shocking for its own sake, not for the story or character motivation. Fetish and psychology go hand in hand, the more I've studied one the more the other gains in relevance.
As for accessibility, I think it has become more acknowledged by mainstream culture, if not outright embraced. There is still an 'edge' to it that can be used in advertising and attention getting, so on a crass level the novelty of it can still be exploited. The real trick is to expertly handle the underlying subtleties that drive fetishes, it isn't just whips and chains or whatever hardware is used. And I don't see it becoming normal either, thank goodness, but if it informs someone's sensibilities and expands their way of seeing the world then I'm all for it.

I really liked it, especially after learning a lot of it was improv. My one critique, I guess, is that the antagonist character's actor did much more creative improv than the other guy in that he was sort of put on the spot to make stuff up more, while the other guy just had a lot of supportive questions/comments like "what?" "really?" "can you explain?" but I liked the result anyways. I think Creep 2 is on netflix but I haven't seen it. The scene that really sort of got me was when he was in the bathtub. Intimate and creepy. Kind of reminded me of your youtube videos, which I snooped around on.
Oh, for sure. I am really not into blood and guts in horror media. I can tolerate it but I feel like blood and guts are a cop-out. My general feeling is that it's effective during the climax of the movie moreso than just sprinkled throughout in jumpscares. A good recent example of this was Get Out, which was very light on the gore but gave me nightmares out the wazoo.
Yeah, I'm glad it's not becoming mainstream either - if it did, it could be misused in a really violent way. Sexual psychology is an area of research of mine (well, I'm just getting into it academically anyways - but it's less depressing to research harmless kinks of a cartoonish nature than violent, sad crimes) and the implications of normalizing certain fetishes sure are interesting but potentially destructive, on cultural level. (e.g. the sexualization of schoolgirl uniforms, that arguably leads to some messed up stuff once it's normalized so much) . And on an artistic level, if it's too normalized it won't pack a punch anymore.
...hmmm. I wonder if the bdsm theme in Hellraiser (as far as the cenobite designs go) would be less effective if it came out today because that sort of leather gear stuff is slightly more mainstream. it's funny to imagine in 30 years time some movie critic going, "god, ANOTHER plushification film? soooo cliche!"

The videographer on Creep was the actual director who had no prior acting experience, he did pick up some stuff as the shoot progressed. The commentary for the film was pretty informative regarding the genesis and evolution of the project, it is rare to see that level of flexibility on a feature film but it is doable when it involves a handful of people and very little money. If it had been written and produced in the standard fashion it would have needed a brilliant script and fearless actors to pull off something that felt so improvised. I like seeing more improv being used in films, but it has to be kept in check by the overall structure of the story or it will become a wandering mess.
Get Out was pretty great, that kept me riveted to my seat. The second viewing held up as you could see just how craftily the film was constructed to allow for different perspectives to surface. Sort of like Shutter Island by Martin Scorsese, the first and second views yield very different reads and new surprises.
The best future for fetish would be a certain overall understanding or grudging acceptance that didn't extend to seeing sex toys and apparel pop up in the local Walmart. It is still fringe, and people are either wired or not wired for it. A nonkink person shouldn't have to feel obligated to emulate kink lifestyles because they are more open or hip or whatever awfulness that would result in. I am not some kink guardian, but it would just to be bizarre for me to see old church ladies strutting out of Sunday service in their finest leather or rubber gear.
Hellraiser designs from the first two films still hold up today for me just because of how earnestly they were portrayed. No hint of humor, it was matter of fact yet alien in nature to the human protagonists. I stopped watching the series after the third film, which was weak, and trailers from more recent entries to the series haven't impressed me in any way. I would sort of laugh if a Cenobite was to walk into a leather bar and elicit approval for their gear without putting the fear of God into the bar patrons. But yeah, I have sensed a certain desensitization of taboo and transgressive designs/modes of living over the last several years, which when coupled with an overall fracturing of cultures and viewpoints will result in many who think nothing of it and others who scream in abject horror at the whiff of weirdness. The middle ground has eroded, critically thinking has vanished in many circles, and tribalism has taken over. I sound like some old man maybe, but reasoned consensus is harder to come by these days. All I can do is keep my head down, make the things I want to make and hope that we aren't all headed for annihilation.
That was dark!
