Based in Anchorage, Alaska is Randy Tharp's family business, "Tharp Flying Services LLC". They provide air logistics to oil and mineral companies via a fleet of ten L-188C Electra III and eight L-382 Hercules (civil C-130) turboprops, plus a single ATL-98 Carvair (A heavily modified DC-4).
The business was started in 1963 by Louis Tharp (1922-1989) with a couple C-46 Commandos flying miscellaneous goods throughout the Alaskan bush. The business was taken over by Louis's son Randy Tharp Sr. (1951-2016) after his death in 1989, with his son Randy Tharp Jr. being second in command.
The business falls on hard times after the death of Randy Sr in a plane crash with his wife, leaving Randy Jr. with no clear idea of how to run the business. Eventually Tharp is absorbed into Joey Paulo's business "Paulo-Freightmaster" based out of Columbus, Ohio and Miami, Florida, allowing them to connect all points of the US with their propliners.
