"Yanno what fascinates me about genealogy? It's a kind of genetic narrative. More accurate than its historical equivalent in some cases. It's an exhilarating proof that free will does exist when you can have both saints and villains in your lineage. The concepts of "good" and "evil" are just terms for fairy tales. That nature only goes so far and that a black heart can totally have a gold coat... Three years ago I stumbled upon a series of old films, dating back some 265 years. They were about one of if not the most ruthless yet strangely capable gangsters in Altinian history.
Samir Atiyeh Hamadi Ei Bastin. The "King of Rampart". Rampart... formerly known as Menor the capital of the Menorean Empire of old. That city blossomed into a massive economic superpower during the late industrial age. So wealthy reportedly that even at its worst its poorest citizens could still afford private automobiles and housing. The movies, like all movies ranged from accurate as far as movies can be to outright fictitious depictions of impossible feats of combative and legal skill... I have to admit I kind of enjoy the latter!
It feels strange reading about this, apparently just like the Tellians of Sol we too at one point harbored an intense distaste for recreational drugs and alcoholic beverages. Phorous' scorch it even tenez roots (I believe the Tellian equivalent is called "tobacco"?) were considered contraband! What a time this must have been. Now Amir? What is an industrious criminal to do but make money off the situation? Sailors, soldiers, rowdy youths and over-indulgent politicians and bronzed bloods. All were thirsting for experiences their culture deemed unsavory. He set up, ran and spread underground centers of debauchery, self-indulgence and poor decision making all over Rampart using the cities old railway networks. So casino's, brothels and watering holes.
What Amir couldn't buy he would burn to the ground and any official he couldn't control he'd "coerce" in one way or another. Anyone who stood in his way, messed with his establishments or hounded his workers, troopers or "toys" would never be heard from again. Oh, this is interesting. There was a scene in one of the most recent movies that caused quite a scandal, a detailed depiction of his sexual exploits. That must have caused a few heads to fly before that stuff was legalized. Apparently he had an "oiled silver tongue" for both mac's and eve's...
"Pinstripe Beauty", "Lightning Hand", "King Size", the man had a lot of nicknames. No doubt related to his methods, tastes and clothing preference. Merciless and brutal to his opponents, surprisingly carefree with his allies and many, many... many... many playthings. Seriously he has me completely beaten for sexual appetite. I can give him a run for his money with looks though, fuck I can see my grandfathers features in him. Maybe this is where the sordid mouth and arrogance of my family comes from... I'm going to have words with my dads about this at some point.
Still, even with my admiration the man was quite the scoundrel. And it wasn't until his late nineties that he was finally taken down... by alcohol poisoning from his ruined liver of all things. Even then his exploits didn't stop and quite a lot of his actions an impact on the cities businesses. He played a role in legalizing contraband... no doubt out of self-interest, but good came of it. Even a poisonous stinger can house an antiseptic I suppose. Well it's already 4am and my shift starts in 3 hours... fuck it all... where's that last movie, that one had an awesome gun fight in it... Gods I'm going to have to try on a pinstripe suit sometime... "
A beautiful grayscale piece by Kory-Xypress on Deviantart, depicting once again one of my ancestors, this time a ruthless, utterly dapper gangster from the Altinian prohibition era. I had a lot of fun describing his getup, in particular the steel-toed shoes. I cannot state for certain that Amir first coined the term "curb golfing" but... well use your imagination darlings ;) I have never been a fan of "good" and "evil" characters, since it is far more believable to have someone who acts out of self-interest and a mixture of kindness and spite rather than someone born to a particular alignment. Choice is everything, but even if traits are not passed on through genetics... I don“t know, it's fun to imagine a bloodline of people, of heroes, Ne'er-do-wells and villains who all possess a tendency for "colorful language" shall we say! X3

Oh my God, this is really good xD Great depiction of a prohibition-era gangster ^^ My 'sona is a gangster (though I prefer the term mobster XP sue me) Anyways XD I really like this one OwO If only I had the money to get a full detailed/moody commission of yaba ;~; oh well XD Maybe sometime soon in the future ^^ Anyways XD Again, really love the detail in this one ^^ The fedora, the classic overcoat to really tell you what era this is XD Even the pattern of those steeltoes really bring it out OwO And the tailored pinstriped pants? Perfect polish ^^ The cigarette and smoking gun is just perfect XD What kind of gun is that? Owo Looks like a Mauser C96 but I won't exactly start placing my fingers in areas outside my expertise XD I ask because my 'sona, yaba, uses a M712 Schnellfeuer, or in English: An automatic version of the Mauser C96 Pistol with a fancy extended clip XD But yeah ^^ Again, really love this one, the black & white tint really turns it into something straight out of a dramatic film of the era ^^
That's actually a Gesten U89, I did base it off the Mauser C96 however! It was a handgun design that fell out of favor for the more reliable revolver as they had not yet solved how to keep the recoil-reloading system from breaking all the time. A notable feature that makes it different from the Mauser is it's magazine-fed firing chamber as opposed to a top-loaded clip and a larger caliber. It gained notable prominence however once a police officer, an amateur gunsmith of all people, figured out the solution. It became a popular, reliable and heavy semi-automatic handgun used by law enforcement agents and would later see extensive use in the 30-year war from the trenches (it could also reliably bludgeon dents into even steel helmets!) to being carried by fighter pilots. It was the first to use 10mm ammunition so it might be a little overpowered for most situations but it has a very nice kick and a resounding, almost revolver like roar. Hence why it was preferred, with hollow-point bullets it only takes one shot to put an Altinian down for good. Plus the way the ejector mechanism works? It makes a distinct "chink" sound every time a cartridge casing is ejected, you actually risk injury if your fingers get anywhere near the snapping mechanism, leading to it's popular nickname of "Seneshe" or "Back Talker". Thank you very much for the enthusiasm as well! X3. And this wasn't that expensive actually!
Woah, guns! OwO XD But, nice detail ^^ I could tell you really have a passion for what you do :3 That I respect ^^ Heh, of course XD I try to be encouraging and enthusiastic towards fellow furs ^^ Also, because it's a question on my mind XD 1. Will we be seeing this guy again? and 2. Will we be seeing what's under those shoes? Owo
Why don't we talk more!? I get the feeling randomness got in the way somehow >w< and that is decidedly what I was going for! :D and it's more of a "great coat/overcoat" since trench coats are definitely made more of leather and heavier stuff. THOSE CHEAP COOL LOOKING ONES ARE NOT TRENCH COATS GODS DAMN IT! XD
