Star Gazing August
A nice little lovely commission I did for
Stampy quite a few months ago but is kind of appropriate to post now because this gal's name is August, here in the month of August. For a space picture, this was fairly simple and easy to do and I tend to charge relatively cheap on these.
But it does have one of the features that is most difficult for me to do in space art, transparency. That is, something semitransparent layered over something else. One such case is the atmosphere in front of her one paw. To do something like that, you have to slowly build up the area a little at time in colored pencils, usually alternating between the images. Eventually you get something that looks right.
Just so you know, colored pencils are not paints. I can't simply layer something on top like you can in say acrylics much less digital. Its something you get better at with lots of practice and you have a good feel for the media. I've been using Prismacolor pencils for over 10 years now even then something like this still causes problems at times.
Done in Prismacolor pencils on black card stock paper.

Thanks once again for this! I somehow forgot to comment on it on here.
You did a great job with August here, she looks great! Well done on actually noticing that her dress is longer on one side than the other too. Most folks don't notice that! The planet and space itself looks spectacular too. You are a master at this on black thing.
