Okay. My first impression was that Chucky was being a bit too forward, asking to have sex with her. I had to re-read that last panel and see that in reality, he's wondering if he "could have had sex with" her that night.

Something just occurred to me. It's been how many days since Merry was kicked out of university? Three days?
If she hasn't moved out of her off-campus dorm yet, Chucky could spend one last night with her before she returns home to her family. With all their cards on the table and knowing there were no expectations of them being a couple, there's nothing stopping them from having a night of passion together. I have the impression that both would want it.
