The one Ashio (the red one) is holding is actually a mind powered gun. He uses some of his mind magic to activate it. He can either use normal bullets or conjure some with the power of his mind.

Now this is the kind of scenery I can easily enjoy here. The lighting is really makes the view pleasant to look at and I just like the Victorian style going on for these two characters. Amazing work here, well done ^^
