In particular, the three in the top-left, which are naturally the focus... Her expression, the text, the hapless guy, the cat jester thing that looks to be at once comforting and leading to thoughts of separation... This is takes me back to a particular period in my life. I'm touched by this, in a not-so-comfortable way. This is a winner, but I definitely see what you're talking about with overornamentation.

I love the devil-may-care collision of styles and techniques with only a theme to pull them together. It's humorous, but equally oppressive with so much going on.

So did you actually find a piece of wood with all the cup-rings in it already and just paint around the textures and natural features of the wood? Cause if so, that's pretty cool. If not, it looks exactly like that. XD

I remember finding this piece a few years back and loving it. Something about it, I don't know. This was one of the pieces from when I was really starting to experiment away from perfect realism in miniatures that helped inspire me to move on.
