Ok so I am thinking about casting some resin mags.
All the parts will be separate so they can all be swapped.
Plugs can be swapped out for sockets to change mags to magnettes.
It will be about as mobile as a lego mag since it will be put together with magnets.
It could be done simply with 12 magnets.
If I get industrious it would need about 24.
I want them to be able to change head plates and swap parts and things like that.
Problem is I am elementary when it comes to casting. Anyone have some matterial suggestions?

Nifty....it sounds like your going to make your own action figures!
...but alas, i have no background in resin or plastic stuff....
The most advice i could give, it try creating your design in clay or sculpty junk.....then slathering it in vaseline.....then make a cast with plaster of paris........then finding some kind of stuff to pour into the mould to make it a tougher than sculpty but less fragile than the clay.
....but this advice stems from a one time attempt in 8th grade to make a cast of sea shells.....which worked but the plaster wasn't the best at capturing small details.

If you need to make the original casting, I'd recommend working in Plaster of Paris or a very dense, closed-particulate (bubbles, not holes) foam. This way, you can actually carve out the structure, and it will remain relatively sturdy during the casting process.
Only downside with plaster is that it can be prone to breakage, but the upside is that mistakes can be fixed by simply adding more back onto it (whereas foam kinda... stays dead.)

Oh, as for molds....
Plaster, Gel, or Plastic molds would be best in most cases, and if you have a shaping table (those cool ones that uses sheets of semi-solid plastic), you can use little toothpicks and straws to create channels needed to fill multiple pieces at once. Once done, pop the mag-parts out, snap them off with clippers (wire or otherwise), and sand or file them smooth.

Oh, right... here's the best part:
I've actually never done it before, but there were some art-student friends of mine who had and I've seen most of the stuff done. All I can say at this point is research would be your best bet. I honestly wouldn't know how industrial groups or even average people do it, sadly.

ha ha ha XD
dude for serious?
Ok so I just got the magnets in the mail..... now it is just down to deciding how detailed they are going to be.
I am gonna make some cory cats for a casting test before I cast the mags I think....
"what would you do with 10 of them,.... you are so MEAN to the ONE you have DX"
