"When Lauren sent me to this place I thought she was crazy. She's the diplomat, I'm the soldier. When I first arrived I was certain that I was the wrong vixen for the job. I thought that things were going to go sideways but it turned out they already had before we even got there. Having grown up around guns it was almost surreal to step into a world of swords and archers, but the moment I held one in my paw it felt like I'd been born with it. I figured out how to craft a set of armor over the chain mail I bought out of hardened ice. You can imagine the looks on some people's faces when a white vixen in ice armor raises her sword at you. I think I'm going to like it here." - Isabelle Sheridan, Talwyn master of ice.
In a planned arc some time in the future (because I plan WAY ahead), Isabelle travels to Diana's homeland with Lyndon Brennan to reestablish contact with a cluster of their people thought lost forever. When they arrive, she discovers that she is not the only one from the Talwyn homeland that has come and not all have good intentions.
Forced to pick up a sword in her efforts to prove her good intentions as well as bringing a fugitive to justice, the events set in motion shall change that part of the world forever in The Great Leap Forward (tentative title).

Exactly. Armor should be functional, make sense, and I just never cared for nor understood the typical female fantasy armor. It just looks ridiculous.
I don't know of any woman that would actually wear bikini armor. LOL.
Isabelle is a practical woman but she is a woman. Her armor reflects both her gender, her style of the craft, and the need for effective protection on the battlefield.

Oh my, well for a vixen from a modern society she certainly pulls the medieval warrior look off perfectly! Her armor looks so pretty, and I love the intricate designs she's come up with. Clearly, she's a vixen with style! She certainly looks like she'd be more than competent with that sword she's holding, too. Luthien did an amazing job with this, and the whole thing looks great!
As far as the soldier turned diplomat angle goes, I'd imagine that Deirdre would sympathize with her there. She's looking to do a fair bit of that kind of thing herself in the not too distant future. It's a pretty big change of attitude and mind-set, but I imagine that Isabel will do very well at it once she finds her footing.

If she'd stayed in Viridis more than a few weeks she might have adopted this look in Ciara's homeland, but of course her time in Diana's homeland will be much more extended. I haven't decided how the second book will play out yet but one thing at a time. The ice armor looks cool, is functional, and personally I never liked traditional female fantasy armor. Isabelle prefers to maintain her dignity and keep her body intact. Unlike a lot of the others, Isabelle has always trained in swordplay having been able to create ice swords and daggers since her training. The armor though, that's new.
Lauren sends Isabelle because she knows that she'll be able to handle what's going on, though of course none of them could have seen what happens coming. Isabelle is going to have to exercise quite a few new skills when she is on her own, more or less. ;)

Coolest vixen on the planet.
Love the armor. The concept of making armor out of magical ice is just plain awesome and I love that it's so practical and emphasizes function and protection over looking sexy. 'Course, she still looks damned sexy, maybe even more so for her practicality. The regular mail under the ice is a nice detail, too. Nice to know she's still got protection just in case the ice magic fails or is countered.

You know it. :)
I agree, I loved the fact that there was chain mail underneath the ice, it seemed logical to me not to mention it'd be nice to have something underneath even though I'm sure cold doesn't bother Isabelle. ;) It looks great, and I generally have an issue with the stereotypical female fantasy armor where it's covering her boobs and her hips and that's it. Isabelle prefers practical armor that will actually keep her safe. :)

Isabelle already knows how to use a sword from her training. The one she has here is one of many she'll form at will as she needs. While its in her hands it's not normal ice and can withstand significant stresses, but when she releases it it will shatter just like any other object made of ice.
The armor, however, is a trick she picks up when she crosses over to Diana's part of the universe to reestablish diplomatic contact.
In the Iridescence part of the universe she regularly forms ice swords. It saves her needing to carry one and it often surprises those that don't know she can form solid objects out of ice, among other things. ;)
