More from Nishi
I used to read Purple Pussy all the time, but eventually the comic came to a close. I still love Dave Kelly / Shmorky's art style, and at least one friend has mentioned how our work is similar.
He's definitely influenced me, but I didn't know it was this strongly. I created these characters before I saw his work, with the exception of the second - Lesbuni.
Last year I wanted to give Nishi a counterpart for my comics, so I just dreamed her up, but now I realize she's a lot like Purple's lesbian counterpart - Betty Bunny.
I'd say she's definitely proof of the lasting effects his comics had on me, even though I never noticed it until now.

I liked the one where purple pussie is angry but can't stop smiling, so she tries to angrily throw her paper work all over the place but it just looks like she's wantonly happy. XD
I hadn't realized that the bunny was a running character. However, I believe that her characters are cynic portayles of stereo-types, so its not unlikely that people would cast characters as those animals with those personalities.
Raccoons are nocturnal so it'd be easy to pin them as a reclusive. Vixens are oft portrayed as slanky and sly and in the furry fandom are humorously considered sluts since they're so common. Bunnies...*shrugs* Bunnies just look like lesbians I guess.

And yeah, he's done a lot of art/animation, so so it'd be really different if he hadn't contributed anything at all.
I don't know much about him now, apparently there was a lot of drama-ish stuff? He wanted to separate himself from furries even though he is one, and he's been Shmorky, Cave Deli, and been active at SomethingAwful... I'm sure he's still doing something somewhere, whatever it is. :3

Quite an awesome homage, Ox. There really is nothing like looking back on something and realizing, "Wow, I can't believe how similar that character is to mine?" Then, you can't help but smile when you begin to dig deeper into that special part of your past and figure out just how much it really meant to you without even you fully understanding it. The human psyche / mind is a wondrous thing.
<LoL!> I have a completely different take on the "Lonely, Loser Raccoons." By chance have you ever heard any of the radio ads that Wendy's aired a few months back? These ads were to promote their "fresh, late-nite, drive-thru" and featured a number of raccoons discussing where they got their nocturnal meals.
Well, in the one ad, one of the raccoons gets a "Tacarito Anchilata," or something like that, and, by the end, his friends scold him as he turns green and his belly inflates from eating gross, heat lamp food. The final sound effect that particular raccoon makes is priceless!

I'm not sure I remember the commercial that much, but I do think I remember raccoons in a drive through. (: I'm sure I've probably seen it though - I guess they're utilizing their sneakiness!
And that also reminds me of the LazyBoy raccoons, that would sneak in a house and sit on the furniture or something similar? :3 Not all have to be reclusive and quiet!
