Back in the days of youth my eyes used to actually hurt if I spent to much time playing video games. But after more than a decade of intense training, it appears they have evolved and no longer hurt after hours and hours staring at a screen, instead they just feel mildly "tired" after a while. Which is easily ignored if what's on the screen is interesting enough. =P
as someone else already suggested. I would recommend using f.lux on your pc and depending on if you have an android (has also a f.lux app) or ios (has no extra app but a f.lux function is build into the recent versions of ios).
the strain is mostly caused by too much blue light. during daytime its ok but as it gets darker reducing blue light on a screen will lessen the strain on the eyes.

You need to get yourself a pair of THESE! they'll lessen the strain on your eyes from the screen and allow you to look longer without any issues. :3c
Perhaps if you had an android/apple phone , you could use a clock app to set reminder alarms to remind you when to take breaks. I've done that on occasion when I know I'm getting into something that I'll get engrossed in and it's helped to remind me to get up and stretch and eat a snack of fruit or something small until the meals.
Though suggested few times, though never linked.
You can always try using Flu.x. https://justgetflux.com/
Software form of what Gunnar glasses do in most accurate form.
Just if doing art (color/shading) you may want to turn Flu.x off due to color temp accuracy, YMMV there.
WebMD diagnosis are, they are 101% accurate. Sad to see you got diagnosed with every form of brain issues due to eye strain symptoms.

webmd says I have ringworm.
well.
we'll see about that. Maybe if I get three near each other I can have a three RINGworm CIRCUS.
no wait
wait
if you like it then you should have put a ringworm on it.
no
not good enough.
I'm done.
Anyway, yeah, the only thing I'd be worried about is that art thing I do requires proper color. I'd worry about forgetting I had the program on and suddenly be positng things only to find that they're headache-inducing colors.

Humoring, but I've no idea what to make of all that XD.
Well the thankful thing about it, even if color was off, it is only off by hue (and brightness). That could easy be fixed with level sliders, but can easy understand the annoyance that brings. It has variety of options for most things, just not so much art friendly. Wish it had a "If application A is running, disable" option. Thing about Gunnar glasses, would encounter same issue. Why not useful to those that deal with graphics and art.

Although blue light is bad for your circadian rhythm and long term eye health, most of eye strain that's screen related comes from the repeated minute focusing your eye is doing while trying to bring the inherently fuzzy edges of pixels into focus. The best way to avoid this is the 20/20/20 rule, or looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
