While working on artwork or even while doing household chores, I often like to watch documentaries. It was in this way that I became aware of the charm and rugged awesomeness of wolverines, and I just HAD to make a character of my own. Specifically, a North American Gulo Gulo who have the darker, more colorful coats and generally smaller stature than the European variety.
They're independent, determined, sure footed, adventurous, resourceful and wild and yet, unexpectedly sweet, sociable towards their own. The mettle of a wolverine is something to aspire to! Firn represents a closeness with the wild and cold places of the world that I've always adored, a yearning for adventure with reckless abandon, and solidarity and confidence in my chosen path. Also, I'm short so it works! A fursuit would be awesome!
Originally I had planned on making this character a hybrid of wolverine and fox, but after doing more research, I found that full gulo was the way to go!
I had finished this ref sheet months ago but I was waiting to find a good name - I found one! Firn is a word that relates to the formation of glaciers, and I think make for a lovely one syllable name.

Excellent work. I like where the design stands on the human-animal scale. Most anthros I've seen drawn are either more human or more animal. Either "human with fur" or almost completely feral. This looks like something in-between. She would fit into a fairy tale, or a fable. Or a cartoon.
