I have given the mother medicine that is supposed to make her produce milk but she pushes the baby away and walks away from him if he tries to go to her. My mare would if she could but he is 4 times her size already and twice as tall. He would suck her dry in a day.

You would wonder how much milk that little lady could produce. I have seen ponies raising warm bloods for the full first 6 month... including the nursing. Of course you need to help her with special treatment but that isn't that hard.

Because of the mom... wait if she gets milk... than she will start looking for the foal to get the milk out of her. Most of the time it works. But if not....than you will have a very special boy there for you^^

If he could reach under there I suspect she wants a foal so bad she would start lactating again.

Oh he will reach there...its amazing what they could do when they are hungry ^^

Hes trying but he wont take to the bottle. Im kindof making him eat with a syringe.

Trying every couple of hours or basically when he wakes up from his naps.

We have not gotten that far yet. He was born at dawn this morning. But yes I am expecting one of us will be up every 2 hours.

Ok. Every two hours is ok. The normal time frame for feeding a foal with a bottle. Try to have a good night.

Awwws! Its sooo sweet and partly sad that she wants a foal so bad she'd adopt. Its a bit funny she pick the largest one. Heheh. But hey, weird things happen. :)

Shes just a good mother all around. Shes going to do all the things we cant.

I had a pony mare that was.. god, she must have been forty.. hated stallions, but loved babies. She'd run after the mini mule we had and actually started to lactate for him. it was mighty interesting.

ohh my lady has become VERY possessive of this baby even from me. Nobody gets near him unless she oks it.

so how things going so far?

He dont want to suck the bottle. But I have a 3oz syrenge and I am not giving him much of a choice. I tip his head back, a nice slow trickle and hold his head till I am sure he has swallowed it. I can usually get 15 or so oz at a time in him. We are going to get a few different nipples tommorow to see if we can find one he likes.

Has he come around yet? hunger is a wonderful motivator

your mare is so loving! i hope she takes care of him like he was her own, its almost as if she sences the extra care needed from you and is helping you, help him!

She is... and she is so happy to do it. Twice her size and shes got him well guarded.

Ohww he´s So cute. Is this the son of your Draft Mare??? Your Mare is a real good Mother, i think she´s very interested in him, because she lost her own baby. It´s sad, that his true mother didn´t accept him. Was he her first foal?
